So the rules of taking a penalty are different in a shootout to taking a penalty during the course of a game?Prufrock wrote:Of course there is, it's a "penalty"shootout. Re: Tonight's Football
No rebounds for a start. Taker only gets one kick. Remember this?BWFC_Insane wrote:So the rules of taking a penalty are different in a shootout to taking a penalty during the course of a game?Prufrock wrote:Of course there is, it's a "penalty"shootout. Not the only one it seems. I mean obviously I know there is no rebound. I'd just never really thought about the rule regarding passing forward to an on rushing player.thebish wrote:yes. well, just knowing that much would mean that you already know that the rules of taking a penalty are different in a shootout to taking a penalty during the course of a game!
Re: Tonight's Football
I don't think the rules are different. Surely it's just that in a shoot out the penalty taker would be adjudged to have missed.

Re: Tonight's Football
The only difference I can see is in the interpretation of commencement of play. In a normal game once the penalty taker has struck the ball, normal play resumes. In a penalty shootout, it's just a series of penalties and normal play does not resume. The rules regarding penalties ARE NOT different.Enoch wrote:I don't think the rules are different. aye - in both cases there is a different rule to determine that - hence - different rules.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:The only difference I can see is in the interpretation of commencement of play. They are rules about recommencement of play. The rules about penalties are the same.thebish wrote:aye - in both cases there is a different rule to determine that - hence - different rules.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:The only difference I can see is in the interpretation of commencement of play. The rebound principle has been tested, the forward pass has not. I'd suggest that the forward pass may well be given as a goal, but not awarded as a penalty score, but we'll probably never know because nobody will have the cojones to test it because once you've won a penalty shootout you don't continue on a what if basis.

According to this, on 81 minutes Messi missed a penalty and on 82 minutes Suarez scored a goal.
Same Law!
Same Law!
Re: Tonight's Football
they are different rules about recommencement of play after a penalty process has begun - so - different rules about the taking of penalties - rules about when a penalty goal-scoring situation is over or not, rules about whether another player can subsequently become involved or not...Lost Leopard Spot wrote:They are rules about recommencement of play. I would add, though, that I absolutely don't care - that this is a level of sophistic shizzle-farting low enough to lose even my interest!

The rules are the same.

In the very odd position of almost wanting United to win, and certainly wanting them to not lose.
