Leigh RMI are no more...

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

No, no, you've explained your inability to join-up your thinking and penchant for talking out of your arse perfectly well, thanks. Nothing other than what we can normally expect from you. Although you're not usually childish in your response though, that at least is a first. Chin-chin. :drink:

So why drop the RMI in the first place?
Has there ever been a Leigh "Railway Mens Institute " ????
has their ever been a garden of eden, flood or ark in Leigh?
No, but maybe Phil Collins is buried there?

Phil Collins once made an album called "Hello, I Must Be Going". The c*nt never kept his promise though, did he? :conf:

Now then. Where's my potato peeler, sea salt, vinegar, firewood, blunted knives..............

Now in this case, i'm right behind you. To quote Dr. Macartney from Green Wing when saying what he thought of when he thought of Switzerland, “I see a chocolate Phil Collins popping out of a cuckoo clock every hour to tidy up his Nazi gold.", except i would swap 'chocolate', for 'peeled, salted and toasted'. In another thread i talk about equality of all. Exclude Phil Collins

Though i did have an Evertonian friend who all his life thout that it was Royal Marine institute - presumably they floated the dreadnoughts on Middlebrook... :D

oh - 'genesis' is an unspeakably bad name...

You're very probably right WTW. Like all else, names get chopped or we get careless about them.

It is, or was, Railway Mechanic's Institute.

(sorry, I went into a bit of a rant here ... & have just edited it out as I realised I'd said I'd closed my commenting on this subject. The above, however, is simply for information).

Didn't see this thread first time around. I'm from neither Horwich nor Leigh but I'm saddened by the loss of the RMI name, and moreover horrified by the new name. I mean, it truly is wanktastic. Genesis? Way to catch onto those two swelling tides of popularity, Christianity and 70s pomp-rock.

I'm from Leigh and would like to put it on record that I have never owned a Genesis or Phil Collins album.

Looks like the stadium delay has caused the chairman to quit and the club looks knackered now.

He reckons the council (Wigan Council) wanted 45 stewards and a control room staffed by 5 people to steward a crowd of 250 in one stand at a cost of £3,000 per match. This is when stewarding at Hilton Park was £200. Also it's a league regulation to have 40 players meals at a price of £7.50 in LSV (instead of £2 x 40 as at Hilton Park) which can add up over a season I'm sure when you've got a small crowd.

Quite impressive from the council to build a new stadium then force the football club to basically fold by it not finishing on time and then bringing in daft costs like that.

Anyway Leyther_Matt will know more than me. So much for Genesis, I'm guessing it will be Leigh Phoenix next!

I don't know how I managed to miss this thread. I'm absolutely gutted that Horwich RMI FC are no more. I played for their youth team and got a run out for the firsts for 10 minutes when I was 15 (I was clogged to fcuk by some gits from Goole).

As I'm a Horwich lad, it was sad to see the team up sticks in the first place, then to change the name... that was a gutter... but that said, now Leigh have dropped the RMI bit, I can stop looking for their results as they've got nothing to do with my affections anymore. It's something of a relief actually as I hated looking out for Leigh on the vidiprinter... but whatever, I still have fond memories of Grundy Hill.

Back on point, Leigh Genesis is the worst name for a football team I've ever heard. Ever. It's worse that Young Boys of Berne, of the Wankdorf Stadium.
