Benitez .... prick

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Not stupid is he when it came to this contract, starts negotiating it when they're top of the league, a drop in performance comes so he delays and delays until they have two great results then the club are ready to give into every demand he has.

Now's the time to save "Benitez is a prick!" as a macro then.
God's country! God's county!
God's town! God's team!!
How can we fail?

I'm quite pleased that people seem to think he's setting us back. I can see that how a side that under Houllier regularly failed to qualify for the Champions League being turned into the best side in Europe in the last five years is regression. Yep. Continue to think that.
You see, that could argued either way. A far more reliable judge of ability is a league structure played over 38 games rather than one-off cup ties - for example you wouldn't claim Burnley are one of the best sides in the country after this season. Liverpool have consistently proved over 38 games every season to be the third/fourth best side in England. How that equates to best side in Europe I am unsure.

Because in the UEFA co-efficients we have more points than anyone else. More simply put we've reached further stages of the Champions League than anyone else on a consistent basis over the last 5 years, including 1 win, 1 final and 1 semi-final. That's what I mean by saying we're the best team in Europe. Also, we've won at the Bernebeu, the Camp Nou and the San Siro, which no other side has done. We've played and beaten the best, consistently. I'll gloss over the minor aberration of Benfica ;)

If you were to aggregate the points in the Premiership over the last 5 years then yes, we'd probably come 3rd or 4th (I don't know the totals), which is why I wouldn't say we're the best side in England, because we're clearly not. We are, however, the best side in Europe, by which I mean in European competition.

And which magical figure would do a better job? Who is available?

He's still the best man for the job in my opinion (and the majority of Liverpool fans that I know).

So did Shankly and Paisley, but I'm not gonna dig them up.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has been given £30m to spend as a reward for signing his new five-year contract at Anfield. (The Sun)

Benitez will use those funds to make a fresh attempt to sign Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry and to launch a bid for Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon. (The Sun)
Real title-winning quality there. Liverpool got conned.

Real award-winning journalism there, from every Liverpudlian's favourite paper.

If we get both of those I'll eat my hat.

You could do with being a bit more sceptical about what you read, young Pedersen.

With Benny McCarthy on the bench.

I wonder what people will say about Megson if Shittu starts up front ahead of Davies today and we concede inside five minutes......

... and Taggart agrees.

Ol' Red Nose may be a git too, but he knows a prick when he sees one and he believes he's seen one. He should know, he's managed Gary Neville for 15 years !!

Effectively saying that Benitez isn't just a bad loser, he's a bad winner who shows disrespect to other professionals. I'm sure that was said 800 posts ago/
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

He didn't actually say he was a prick though did he? In that case I will. Benny is a prick. (and just as clever as his namesake)

I saw the incident live. Whilst I'm not a fan of Benitez, I'm not sure disrespectful is the word I'd use for it...though I can see how people might see it that way. I'd personally call what he did arrogant, and lets be honest, Mr Allardyce knows plenty about that himself.
