£16m for Henry is a bit of a bargain if you ask me

Barcelona are in talks with Arsenal with a view to signing striker Thierry Henry on a four-year deal.

Officials for the Spanish club are in London negotiating with the Gunners over a reported £16m transfer fee.

The Catalan club hope to close the transfer deal for Arsenal's record goalscorer who has long been linked with a move to the Nou Camp.

The player's agent, Jeff Weston, told BBC Sport: "The SEM Group have no comment to make."

Earlier in June, the agency rubbished reports from France that the Arsenal star has agreed a provisional three-year contract with Barcelona.

I'm a bit hesitant on Henry. After seeing him this year I fear he has washed up. Properly motivated I think he's still great, though.

Wouldn't say he is in his prime. Won't be long till he starts losing his pace.

Still he is a top player, 16 million is probably par in today's market though.

It is when you think Chelsea paid £30m for a 30 year old Shevchenko. Henry is awesome. Great signing. Who will Arsenal go for as a replacement? Anelka?

hmmm. Bent or Henry for reportedly the same cash?

henry every time. I'd rather 3 years of Henry than 10 years of Bent. Bent isn't even half the player Henry is so by my reckoning 16m is a bargain compared to Bent

How come Barcelona are interested then?

I really can't understand where they get these figures from. If you ask me £16mil is a steal. Put it this way; I wouldn't have been surprised if the same the story had been broken but with him having a £30mil pricetag.

I would say he is on the wrong side of his prime if you know what i mean.

Especially considering a lot of his game is based on his pace.

But I've no doubt he will do very well at Barca.

I hate it when English clubs get caught with their pants down like this. £16m is the same fee Man Utd paid for Carrick. Its sad for the Premiership that Henry will leave, but Arsenal have been a funny club these last few years, far too many upcoming players and not enough of players who are ready right now. And their football is too particular, all this fancy 100 passes before creating a chance is not effective. It could be many a year before we see Arsenal competing for the big trophies again.

Not to mention that United paid MORE than that for Hargreaves, and I know who I would rather have. This is good news in one sense because I think it could legimiately open the Champions League to us. However, you have to worry that Arsenal might try to use that fee on Anelka . . .

Once again, the difference between the Henry, Hargreaves and Carrick deals is wages

Assuming Carrick and the Bowtoner are on 60k per week (is it more, I dunno) for sake of making a mark, I'd expect Henry to be costing 4 million a year more that

So, its not as simple as some folk suggest

exactly.

not withstanding the spelling or the odd use of "legitimately", Henry didn't have a great season last year and the arse managed to do ok, next season would be no different. Reyes and Walcott is hardly a shitty attacking combination. Henry is not the difference between champs league and waffa cup for the arse.

It will be interesting to see if he stays injury free. Has been prone in the last few seasons. Also I can't understand why he was devastated at David Dein leaving :? In many ways Arsenal are in the same boat as Bolton. Long term manager, top players leaving. Maybe they can get Aidy Boothroyd as their new manager :)
