Anyone watching Copa America?

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Anyone watching Copa America?

Post by Mich Caine » Sat Jun 30, 2007 9:41 pm

Just seen a fantastic dive by a Uruguay player just now, it was like he was diving into a swimming pool. The commentator said 'Its pathetic', but it was really funny.

Anyone been watching this tournament? Brazil seem to never take this tournament too seriously, players like Ronaldinho and Kaku not involved. Can you imagine Euro Championships without Rooney or Gerrard? Kind of devalues the tournament.

Still, nice to have some football on this summer!

I can't believe Argentina disposed of the USA so easily, the coach must be very poor with such great players at his disposal.

I suppose you didn't know that we're fielding a weakened team in this tournament due to the fact that we were focusing on the Gold Cup, which we won?

Gerrin. You won a crap competition with the likes of Trinidad and Tobago, Canadia and Bermuda?

Just like Newcastle winning the intertoto, its worthless.

Not necessarily arguing, though we did defeat the World's Most Overrated Team, Mexico, with a cracking goal:

At any rate, the winner of the Gold Cup gets a spot in the Confederations Cup so the incentive was for us to field a stronger team in the Gold Cup and test out fringe players in the Copa America.

I'm forming the opinion that you're a bit racialist when it comes to the Mexicans. You clearly feel nothing but bitterness towards them. Wind your neck in. The rules is the rules! Image

Borgetti who was injured in the brazil game, Marquez who played that day too?

Aye, having slaughtered Canada 2-1 in the semi, thanks to a linesman who is so blind or stupid he couldn't see the ball come off that useless lump Onyewu and therefore it not be offside, you beat reserves, injured and tired players on home turf. Well done. I await Landon Donovan picking up the next World Cup.

Granted, the call in the Canada game was bad, but it would have been irrelevant had the referee sent off Onstad for bringing down Beasley like he should have. CONCACAF refereeing is god awful, more often that not it works to our disadvantage so I'm not going to feel bad about one going in our favor.

You said we played "their reserves," now all of a sudden you've changed your story to "reserves, injured and tired players." Tired players? As if we didn't play the same number of matches? And "home turf?" Mexican fans definitely outnumbered American fans. Given the amount of bullshit you just let loose with, is it safe to assume you didn't actually see the games?

I do my best to avoid watching second rate footy, the likes of guatemala and honduras don't do it for me. I did get to see the USA v Canada "highlights" though, it was marginally better than kids in a school playground with a tennis ball.

Fact is you played nobodies all the way to the final. During which you played a team which blows hot and cold and quite frankly was more concerned with the Copa America.

But you take you victories where you can, I mean I loved the Freight Rover & Leyland Daf Cups, I see no reason why you shouldn't enjoy your victories, as long as you keep them in context.

So what you're saying is that you just offered an elaborate critique of the performances of the U.S. in the Gold Cup and Copa America, despite not seeing any of the games?

My goodness you are a windbag.

errrr no, maybe you should go back to the 4th grade and learn to read again. There's no critique of those games. I've just pointed out your win is pretty meaningless when put in the wider context, something else you fail to grasp regularly.

Hogwash. You attribute our win against Mexico to playing against their reserves, and to home field advantage, neither of which are actually true. If you want to argue whether or not Landon Donovan, Eddie Johnson etc. can do a job for Bolton based on their skills or performances at MLS and international level then that's great, but if you're just going to start making stuff up then you probably should just shut up about the whole thing.
