Let's all laugh at Jackburn

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy failed to turn up for the first day of pre-season training on Monday, reports BBC Five Live Sport.

McCarthy, 29, has repeatedly said that he would leave Ewood Park for a club in the Champions League.

The South Africa international has been linked with Chelsea, whose manager Jose Mourinho won the Champions League at Porto, with McCarthy in his squad.

McCarthy scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season.

He was the second highest scorer in the league behind Chelsea's Didier Drogba in his first season in England, helping Rovers to a 10th-place finish.

Speaking in June, McCarthy said: "If the opportunity does come to go and play for a team where you can move up a level and play Champions League football, that will always be my dream.

"If that opportunity occurs to go and play for a team like that, then I would love for my management to look at the possibility and look in their heart to make it possible to make a move like that."

McCarthy counts Celta Vigo and Ajax, as well as Porto, among his former clubs.

Made a good signing in yon Ritgers. If McCarthy goes, they'll have money - and arguably a replacement.

Regardless of localised tribalism, McCarthy was surely THE signing of last season.

And Ritgers could well be the signing of this season. Good manager that Sparky - unfortunately.

According to the ever reliable Wikipedia, Rigters has just 8 league goals to his name in his entire career.

This in the same league where Kezman scored 126 goals in 172 games.....

Maybe not, but he cost the same as Fabian DeFreitas, a decade later, in a vastly more inflated market. Compared to the price of England's U21ers, it seems a sensible gamble to me

(Awaits Mof Gimmers swooping in with a "What's wrong with Fabian DeFreitas?!")

That chap did well during the U21 cup fair enough, but that's hardly a guarantee is it - so did Vaz Te

D'you know if Harrison was involved in that deal?

You can't knock Fab too much. Don't forget his goals against Reading at Wembley.
And, erm, er.....he did score a good one against Forest at Burnden in the Prem. Very tight angle, if I recall correctly...
Not to mention.... er.... yes, well....
I think he replaced Len Cantello as our most expensive player for a while, too...

Scored the first goal in beating the champions at Burnden as well, don't forget (though he nearly missed)

He was indeed our record signing until we signed Blake I think?

Fairclough, I believe. Chris Fairclough was our record signing for about a week. Then we signed Gerry Taggert for even more!
Heady days...
