Yes of course the womens World Cup has started. There is quite a bit of skill in some of these goals but check out the 1st and last goals. The Argies keeper knocks both goals into the net when not under any pressure. If that is the best of womens football give me Sunday League any day.

Saw the highlights on Eurosport (whose co-commentator was the quietest mumbler in the world - she plays for Arsenal, I got that much, the rest was mumblemumblemff) so didn't watch the BBC highlights. Some of the women's game is eminently watchable but results like this don't help. Especially when England's coach Hope Powell had said on the eve of the tournament that "the quality has levelled out a lot". And we've got to play Germany ourselves on Friday...

Very good
Only problem I have ever seen with womens football is the goalkeeping is always atrocious

Not always, but often. However, for Japan's late equaliser against us today I don't so much blame Rachel Brown as the wazzock in the wall who ducked under the shot

I've heard about that programme, from the old days...

Well i've seen most of the highlights and the second half of both England's games so far. The Guardian summed it up for me when they said that it was like watching blokes who aren't very good at football. In some cases it is quite literally like watching blokes, especially when Brazil or China play. They seem to be operating some sort of mingers-only policy.
I appreciate that the games won't be as physical but to be honest that should be an advantage as the games have fewer stoppages. What i don't understand is why women can't be just as skillfull as men. Some decent play in patches but if these are the best teams in the world, then i'd hate to see the teams that didn't qualify.
England's keeper doesn't look bad and i was impressed with Japan's goalie but overall the standard of goalkeeping is just plain embarrassing, especially when dealing with crosses. It seems that a corner is almost as good as a penalty!
The Chinese have done a good job of organising the tournament. It's a good idea to play two games back-to-back with the bigger game on second so that the crowd builds up. The atmosphere for some of the games has been fantastic.
BBC's coverage has been pretty good apart from the co-commentator who has developed a habit of repeating what the commentator has just said every time he pauses to draw breath.

Not really. The fittest player i've seen so far is the American goalie. God, we sound like a bunch of women talking about the men's game!

I don't quite follow this, T58.
They are not as strong as men, cannot run as fast as men, cannot jump as high as men, and cannot kick as far as men. Most of them are amateurs or at best semi-pro. They don't train as as long as men, have as good coaching as men, play as often as men, or play as good opposition as men. Why in the name of Edson Arantes do Nascimento would we expect them to be as skillful as men?

Try the monosyllabic morose mumbler on Eurosport. Dear me.
