Ronaldinho to City?

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Ronaldinho to City?

Post by spraggy » Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:39 am

Can anyone see this happening? Reports coming through that he favours City over Milan...

The Barca president, Joan Laporta, offered City hope of winning the race. "[Ronaldinho and his agent] have two interesting proposals and they are leaning more towards the one from Manchester City," he said.

AC Milan or Man City? And he's favouring Citeh? They must be offering him stupid money. Or maybe it's just the lure of such a massive club.

woops!
Milan are close to completing the signing of Ronaldinho from Barcelona, and will unveil the player at their Milanello training base tomorrow, according to reports in Italy this evening.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reported on their website that Milan will pay Barcelona €18.5m (£14.775m) for Ronaldinho, though that figure is likely to be increased by performance-related bonuses. Ronaldinho himself will be handed a three-year deal worth €6.5m (£5.2m) a year.

But it isn't about money, it's about football.......isn't it? Fancy turning down a "massive" club like Citeh.

One suspects rainy Manchester and Mark Hughes aren't Ronaldinho's ticket to the easy life.

It has been confirmed on Sky Sports now.

"Milan released a statement on their official website which read: "AC Milan and Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of Ronaldinho.

"The player will be in Milan [on Wednesday] to undergo a medical and sign a contract that will keep him at Milan until June 30 2011."

Read something in the MEN tonight along the lines that Milan will pay 18.5 mil, but it would have cost Citeh 26 mil?

Reports suggest that Ronaldo's negotiating team were ultimately uinimpressed by a financial package from City that was heavily weighted with clauses relating to performance, success and marketing.
Thaksin's main reason for owning City is to keep in the spotlight in Thailand so he can get his money back and return to power. (by the way it is not going so well at the moment). I guarantee you he would have been insisting on using Ronaldinho heavily for marketing in Thailand, and also in other parts of Asia. His "City" tour of Thailand was a complete flop, and his superstore for Man City, well I don't even know where it is and I live here. Thaksin now realizes that just owning a PL football club is not enough. He needs a big name personality representing the club.

By the way why are the BBC calling him Ronaldo?[/quote]

There were reports (well, it was on the Guardian website) that Barcelona would prefer to sell to Milan rather than City because it would leave them with a free run to sign Adebayor from Arsenal.
Hence, perhaps, the discount?
