I can't quite believe that we're still top despite some of the dross we're playing at the moment. What should have been relatively easy home wins against Stoke, Fulham and West Ham would've seen us 7 points clear. Ah well, I'm not complaining - hopefully we'll find ourselves a bit of form sometime soon.
Aye, if they can beat Fulham at home (trickier than it sounds, y'know ) then they'll only be a couple of points off the top. 3-way fight going into the new year, although I still think Japan will bugger up United's season by delaying another game, and with all the added travelling and things.Athers wrote:United look like they're looming up and with all the other top teams to play at home you have to think they'll come chugging along up to Liverpool, then we'll see the scouse credentials when as they're side by side United go on one of their runs and win 11 of 12 or something.

He was probably knocked over by the force of the famous kop sucking the ball towards the goal.communistworkethic wrote:but check out his first reaction - to go down like he's been fouled.Verbal wrote:Gif of the day...

if united are anywhere near you around mid jan they will walk past you in the table pissing on the waiter's balding head all the wayblurred wrote:Aye, if they can beat Fulham at home (trickier than it sounds, y'know ) then they'll only be a couple of points off the top.
Traditionally we've done better in the second half of the season than in the first; must be that 'rotation' of Benitez's bearing fruit... Seriously though. If we're there or thereabouts come the new year, it'll be a very interesting end of the season.James B wrote:if united are anywhere near you around mid jan they will walk past you in the table pissing on the waiter's balding head all the wayblurred wrote:Aye, if they can beat Fulham at home (trickier than it sounds, y'know ) then they'll only be a couple of points off the top.

True dat. Dont fancy their chances if they are sans Torres ou Gerrard for any length of time. Definately going to have to up their performances is general if they are to win it. Got the Dingles next week though so i hope it doesnt come crashing down for another week yet.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:We'll just have to hope that Torres keeps getting nobbled...

Well Torres has already missed 6 of our 15 league games to date, and looks set to miss maybe one or two more. If missing over a third of a season to date is not 'any length of time' I'm not quite sure what is. We've not done too badly in his absence, it has to be said. Beat United and Chelsea without him.Prufrock wrote:True dat. Dont fancy their chances if they are sans Torres ou Gerrard for any length of time. I don't think that's factually correct. Of the last 9 seasons, Liverpool have gained more points in the second half of the season in only 4 of them - so less than half. 3 seasons, they've scored the same number of points in the second half as the first and two seasons they've scored less.blurred wrote:Traditionally we've done better in the second half of the season than in the first; must be that 'rotation' of Benitez's bearing fruit... In Benitez' time at the club, you've only improved your second half once - last season by +2 points. His first season, you got worse by 4 points and the other two have been same number of points in each half of the season.
Redshite aren't much different except in a couple of very important regards. They've improved 5 and dropped in 4 of the last 9 seasons. On each occasion they've dropped though, they've had way more points in the first half of a season than Liverpool have managed to get in any first half to a season over the same timeframe (43, 46, 46 and 47). They've had their largest gains - not unsurprisingly - when they've had their slowest starts = +11 points and +13 points in 01/02 and 02/03 respectively.
It is fair to say that Liverpool are on their best start for a while - they've already beat their normal half way number of points (or equalled it) from 6 of the last 9 seasons and with 4 games to the half-way mark, I think there's every chance they'll get to halfway with their best start for 10 years.
Well you can use statistics to prove anything, I guess
The underlying reality to those, though, is that in two of Benitez's seasons we were resting players for league games (much to the chagrin of Colin Wanker, among others) as we'd reached two Champions League finals, and also a semi-final last year. Thus our tame defeats to the likes of Fulham away when starting XIs were demonstrably weaker than at other times of the season belie the statistics.

Well the statistics tell "what actually happened" after the event. The where's and whyfor's are pretty irrelevant to be honest. You could be involved until the latter stages of the CL again this year - you could get to an FA cup final, requiring a few replays along the way - you could get some injuries to key players. Same as Arsenal, Chelsea or RedShite to be honest.
