The first goal should have stood, and it wasn't a pen.

The second goal was a screaming header, and should have stood.

I think they should throw in this with the match fixing investigation.

I can only imagine what the reaction would have been had Riley acted like that today.

In my view he was right about the first "goal". When you watch the replay he had clearly blown for the penalty before the ball broke to the guy who "scored" on the back post. I can only begin to imagine how the referee felt when the ball went to the guy who put it away. I bet it all developed in slow motion! And it wasn't his fault that that nice person missed the penalty.

As for the second goal, well I cannot defend him on that one. There was not an infringement, of any kind.

As for the Watford game? Blame his assistant, not him.

I accept that on the ghost goal it wasn't all his fault, but it was his call. Surely he must have had some kind of view on it?

For someone who was being hailed as some kind of saviour of refereeing at the start of the season, he's having a horrific time of it.

By "ghost" goal I am assuming you refer to the one at Watford. Any referee relies heavily on his assistant for any call on offside or a ball crossing the goal line. From the referee's position he must be very sure of himself to overrule his assistant's call. He doesn't see any action replay. I have never seen a "ball across the line" situation where defenders do not vehemently argue their case - so why should he allow the Watford players to overrule his assistant? The assistant got it wrong - regally. The assistant is a lot more experienced than this particular referee, by the way. What would you have done in the referee's position in this case?

As for the Derby game today - does any sensible person really think he was "just guessing"? He called it as he saw it - in my opinion he got the first one right and the second one wrong. He made a lot less mistakes than the shower of shite running around in Forest and Derby shirts over the 90 minutes.

He blew for the handball that he adjudged had been committed by the Forest player who played the ball before it broke to the "scorer". (I thought that player had handled the ball too, for what that is worth.) Watch it again, if you have it on tape - always bearing in mind, of course, that we have the benefit of slo-mo, unlike the referee. He got that one right, in my view. He was just very unlucky that the ball broke as it did subsequently.

No excuse for the second disallowed goal though.
