Well can't say I'm all that surprised and it is nice that he apologized for his mistakes and all, but I don't think he should give up yet. If he sells, and the price won't be that high (speculation as low as m80), there is a good chance that the clearing that is needed will be done, and Shearer will not become the manager. I felt with Shearer in place they have an excellent chance to stay down for another season or two.

Shepard will buy it again.

An ideal opportunity for someone to buy a potentially great Club for a very cheap price. But the Challenge of taking that potential and making it a reality will be very very difficult taking the history, players, manager (or lack of one) and fan expectations. There is no way that Shepard could do that he is too close to the Club and is responsible for a lot of the history that holds the Club back.

It needs a completely new start, so a new owner with vision and a lot of money is required. Similarly a new experienced manager and a plan of 3 to 5 years to recover the club, if they want a solution that will take them back into the Premiership and good enough to challenge for a top 6 spot again on a regular basis.

Will the fans be willing to accept a plan that will take that long? I doubt it and that is the real problem. So they will probably go for a quick fix which may give a short term gain but will fail again in the medium to long term.

No I definitely don't, but I'm a realist and can see the potential with the right money man (he would need a lot) and manager. But the fans are the ones, with their unrealistic expectations, who will continue to hold the Club back. They will never give the owner and manager the time they need to turn the club around. Sound familiar!?

It'll need to be a two-year plan, really, otherwise they're in the shite. £22m over the next two years, then down to £2.5m a year in TV money thereafter. Of course they could make a long-term, 5 year plan to get themselves running sustainably and back up into the Premier League under their own steam, but then when did business sense ever apply to football clubs, eh?
