Wolves: From the Wolf's mouth

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Wolves: From the Wolf's mouth

Post by mullayo » Sat Jun 13, 2009 12:21 am

I went on a Wolves forum and got them to breakdown their team for me - who I have only seen them play once against West Brom in a championship playoff. Great game. Because I was bored in the transfer window.

Hard to judge our side at the moment due to majority never kicking premiership football before

expecting

kevin Foley to become star player (once again) - he's our right back, nothing to flash, just mr consistant 7,5/10 every game, quietly gets on with his business

michael kightly - tricky wing player, loves take on fullbacks, sometimes tries to much or misses the final killer ball, but majority of our goals come through him and he is probably our biggest key for creativity

ebanks blake - feeds off scraps for majority off his goals, all his goals come from inside the box, our version of nistlerooy back in the day

hennessey - welsh international, great shot stopper, bit dodgy in commanding the box and crosses, had massive dip in confidence last year for couple of months, came through it and showed real character

wildcard - matt jarvis, bit suprise package on the wing i feel
richard stearman, england u21 - promised last year, needs find some consistancy

strength - youth, desire, hunger, never say die attitude
weakness - sloppy defending, set pieces (attacking and defending), midfield pair
What could've happened; did.

2nd opinion

Our main attacking threats are.

Michael Kightly - On his day he is unplayable, constantly putting in deadly balls across the box and out pacing and skilling defenders, this year he has been unlucky with injuries but played 37 matches, scored 8 goals and assisted about 20.. Definatly worth a punt at being a fantastic player this season, cost us a measly 100k. - Winger

Matty Jarvis - Again, on his day he is the poor mans Cristiano Ronaldo, unfortunatly only managed to play 21 matches after a horrific calf injury, but his skill and pace is unbeleivable, Scored 3 goals aswell, setup alot.. Watch out for this lad, he is FASSSSSTTT - Winger

Sylvan Ebanks - Blake - Amazing player, creates goals from nothing and latches on to any ball, he is strong and quite fast. Scores from amazing angles and 25 goals in the CCC speaks for itself. 2 years in a row he has been the Golden Boot winner for the CCC.. Watch out again, might be an Andy Johnson (Goals in the prem).

Defensive

Kevin Foley - Best Right Back we have had for years, consistent and makes little mistakes, He played 45! matches this season!!! 45!! Kev was the reason Ronaldo left for spain Very Happy

Wayne Hennessey - A little timid at times but can save 3 points in a match, Welsh number 1 and a better shot stopper then Murray.

Thats about it really, Berra hasnt really shined but Milijas looks like he is coming in at CM.

3rd rate

Judging on last few seasons expect to look out for Kightly, our right winger/cm he is a very positive player, direct and is a good finisher.. sometimes he frustrates me, but when you see his seasons stats 8 goals and over 20 assists you realise how invaluable he has potential to do well.

Ebanks-Blake is an obvious choice.. I know many strikers do well in Championship and not in Prem, but I would really hope, as a natural goal scorer, its a natural step up for him.. don't expect him to get 20, but I do expect him, regardless of signings to be our top scorer.

Foley, solid, dependable right back.. the one guy you can say with confidence will make the step up no worries.. but he is a SOLID right back, so don't expect to be hearing his name on Match of the Day much.

My potential suprises for the season.. impact player Matt Jarvis, traditional winger, likes to beat players, final product needs improving.. Edwards, quite dynamic, direct and runs his ass off, gets on the end of crosses.. Berra, some people don't like him, he needs to settle but I think he is best centre back we have.

Hennesey our GK is a good lad, decent shot stopper, but a litte timid (expected for someone who is still 21-22) most goalies don't matre until they're late 20'd so lots of hope for him..

Our MVP, if he ever got fit, which he won't, is England No.1 Matt Murray! He would be my first name on the team sheet if fully fit.. unfortunatley he is the 1 name I don't expect to see on the team sheet all season Sad

Matt Jarvis used to play for Ipswich?

Interesting that the first reply listed their strengths without listing anything technical or tactical.

I like Kightly, and remember seeing him for Grays three years ago. The lad's rapid, direct and has a cracking shot on him. He'll do fine.

Actually I used to like wolves when that doug or dougan or something used to play for them (if I remember he was nearly as ugly as Joe Jorden) and I liked their kit

The problem with Wolves has always been for me 'big club syndrome' - although its considerably less these days than when they were vying with us for promotion in the mid-90s, when their arrogance made West Ham seem modest.

Kightly is a cracking player, a bit gutted when wolves ot promoted becasue of how heavily linked we used to be with him, get hi a bit of prem experience and no doubt we'll probably have another look at him

I don't think we've ever gotten along with them. My Dad told me stories of their visits to Burnden. i don't think we've ever really gotten on with them.

I don't like them because they spoilt my first trip to Wembley.
