Following on from the 40 yard header thread...
There are a great number of players who fail to reach their full potential. I would say Stan Collymore fell short of his potential for numerous reasons. Who else do you think would fall under this category? Footballers only please!

Gascoigne, Tony Kelly, Le Tossier.

OK - I'll bite. Why was Shearer a wasted talent?
30 goals from 63 appearances for his country. Prem League winner.
260 goals from 441 appearances in the Premiership.
Played until he was 36(?) and not really at all comparable to your other two p(r)icks...
I guess the only thing you could say is that he might have won more individually by joining one of the "top 4" clubs. I don't think that's a waste of talent though - his talent was there for all to see. Just means he believed there was more important things in football than playing for a "top 4" club. For which I applaud him - wish there were more like him.

Conceited, irritating, deluded, annoying geordies?
Just what we need like more of them!
Shearer is a waste of oxygen let alone talent!

He might be all of concieted, irritating, deluded and a geordie.
He could even be a waste of oxygen.
If you think he was untalented, then you need your head feeling.

Although the headline is Wasted Talent, I was answering to the first line of the quantifying statement which said:
'There are a great number of players who fail to reach their full potential.'
I think it's fair to say that, had Shearer joined one of the big four he would have done that.
Any confusion on your part is as a result of the original poster's ambiguity.

Oh he was talented. He made the most of it as well, apart from actually winning enough (which I think is what enfield is driving at).
But he likes the hero status he has up in Geordie land and plays on it a lot. He's in the same league as Ant and Dec in my book.

If the subject is unfullfilled, as opposed to wasted, I'd stick in proper Ronaldo. He could have been the best ever, he had everything. He was still a top player anyway, but with actual knees, I shudder to think how could he could have been.

Boo to you Mr Enfield. Quite frankly i like the ambiguity as it leaves the door open to a more varied response!

A quality I admire in a post. It's just a shame I was pulled up for indulging in that very thing!
