Best name in the history of football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

With talent to match.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Well, my fine fellow. My introduction to Scottish footie was at Firhill Park in Nov 1990. I was in Weegie visiting my then S-i-L and her Husband, a Celtic supporter originating from Lerwick. On the day Celtic were away at Aberdeen so we needed a game to see (my innocent/naive suggestion that we should go watching Rangers met with some disapproval).
Anyway, Partick were at home to Airdrie. One particular Airdrie forward had started his time there in a blaze of glory by scoring a hat-trick on his debut and setting the heather alight with his free-scoring (something somewhere deep inside is telling me that he scored three consecutive hat-tricks); I couldn't wait to see this fella. Unfortunately he failed a late fitness test and didn't play that day.

Can you guess who it was?
Isn't it funny how thinks come around like that?

Fans of nitpicking might actually note it was Airdrieonians FC at the time. They went bust in 2002 and their place was taken by Gretna but the club resurrected themselves through the acquisition and renaming of Clydebank FC.

Airdrieonians last match at Ayr United got abandoned after several away fans invaded the pitch. The game was never replayed.

Owen Coyle won Scottish Football League player of the year with Airdrieonians that season ending up as top scorer with 27 goals. His team mate Sandy Stewart went on to manage the new Airdrie United the following season while Coyle moved on to Falkirk.

The internet doesn't say what happened to them after that...

Anyway, can I nominate Rafael Scheidt?

Indeed it was Airdieonians, but they were commonly called just Airdrie, as I recall, pickynitter.

The name 'Emile Ivanho Heskey' always tickles me too.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
