Chester go, erm bust

Re: Chester go, erm bust
My first game was Chester away in '92. Can't really remember it like, being 4 and all, but sad nonetheless, and interesting to reflect on the fortunes of both clubs in the time that has elapsed since.

To be honest, the whole thing stinks. Have a read about former owner Stephen Vaughan and see what you think (it might be Wikipedia but it's pretty well sourced by the looks of it). Something really needs to be done about this sort of thing.jimbo wrote:They go bust with a debt less than a day's pay for John Terry. Tragic how that is allowed to happen.
Anyway, good luck to the Chester fans with their new club.

No but I suppose its where you draw the line.Hobinho wrote:Actually I find it sad that some high paid Prem players could not donate a days wage to stop this happening to small clubs and save fellow footballers carears. Hardly going to put them out is it?
Do you have a whip round to help Portsmouth out and save fellow professionals who they probably know and are mates with?
I think its fairly criminal though that Chester have gone this way given what seems like fairly paltry sums of money.
Its sad and really I think football has gotten something very wrong somewhere!
The difference is with the cash pompy players have earned they are hardly signing on and the club ain't bust yetBWFC_Insane wrote:No but I suppose its where you draw the line.Hobinho wrote:Actually I find it sad that some high paid Prem players could not donate a days wage to stop this happening to small clubs and save fellow footballers carears. I have an office in Chester city centre & truth be told I've not heard one comment about the club's demise.
It's truly sad & I know some absolute stalwart supporters, but the clubs been run like a car crash for 15 years now & this has been coming a long time.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Who owns the stadium & land, Bobo? Bottom end of Sealand Rd Ind Est - I'd have thought it'd be worth a bob or two.bobo the clown wrote:I have an office in Chester city centre & truth be told I've not heard one comment about the club's demise.

I think it's the City, not the club.
They sold the old Sealand Road ground & there's a shopping centre there now. The new one is a little down the estate from there & I think that was built for them in 1992 as part of the move. They actually played a couple of seasons at Macclesfield's Moss Rose ground, which is some distance away. That probably began their downward spiral. It holds barely 5,000 and is a bit of a subbuteo kit ground.
As an odd fact, it actually straddles the Wales/England border & part of the ground is in each country, with most of the actual pitch being in Wales.

Oh, another Diva Stadium Triv-Master point has just occurred to me. Super John scored his first goal for us there!

On the scale of money available from TV and sponsorship it isn't helping the grass roots of english soccer and that is very sad.
Why can't there be some form of soccer "charity" that helps teams like Chester out? Mind they appear to have been very badly run by the owners.

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED
