Re: have you ever got into a fight at a football match?
Not a complete scrap but I had a total bellend next to me at the Blackburn game at Ewood. He was just swearing, ranting and raving constantly when everyone around us was just enjoying being in the lead. I said to him "keep your wig on, we're winning for feck* sake" and he lost the plot, started to kick off with me and he had to get his mate to carry him off into the dugout.
He then came back to the stands, only for some lad behind me to say to his mates "Paul Robinson is fecking wank" and then he kicked off with him (must have been a huge Robinson fan or something)..... So the lads behind me then constantly kept winding him up chanting "wanky wanky Robinson" instead of "wanky wanky Wanderers" which was hilarious. I could see the steam coming out of his ears.

No. But I'm made of gentle stuff.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I'm a lover, not a fighter. In all honesty the shit that happened in the '80's and early '90's stopped me from going to the football.

Got chased through the dark back streets of Burnley one night...but got away, just !

There's something about me. I can get into a fight at a UN peace convention. But, strangely enough, I've only ever been in two fisticuffs and one mob on mob at football matches. The first fisticuff was in the Shed End at Chelsea and some ass took exception to my accent so I tw*tted him (nobody else interferred because I was standing in amongst a load of friends from London). Second fisticuff a couple of decades ago at Causeway Lane in Matlock in a Derbyshire League cup match and some loud mouth behind me sprayed me with half-chewed fish'n'chips in his rage at some stupid refereeing decision; it escalated into all out nastiness after my punch to his testicles was cushioned by a protective slab of fat overhanging them and he just looked startled rather than dropping to the ground as per expectation - not sure, technically who won, but we were both arrested although neither of us pressed charges and nothing came of it. I still see him about very occassionally and surly nods are exchanged.
I was caught up in the mob on mob when Leeds fans went on a rampage in Sheffield after a Blades v Leeds match in the 70s. It was very nasty with a lot of missiles flying (including bottles, bricks, darts, and scaffolding poles). I was bystanding in the city centre when the mobs ran by. I became utterly incensed and joined in after a bunch of Leeds bast**ds started on a passing dog nearly kicking it to death. I ended up needing stitches in a scalp wound, but to my everlasting satisfaction I battered the tw*t who kicked the dog.

No, but didn't feel very comfotable when made to put a jumper over my Arsenal shirt as a teenager just so my spurs supporting neighbour could have a drink in a Tottenham pub before a derby at WHL. Was only about 15 and was petrified as to what might happen to me if anyone realised i was a gooner (probably nothing! but i didn't realise that at the time!)

There appears to be something mean and nasty about the Spurs-Arsenal rivalry. I've drunk in many pubs with all sorts of different fans and never come across the hostility displayed in a pub (can't remember the name) near Macdonald Road in New Southgate. I got the feeling, every time I supped in there that if a gunner was to walk in they'd have lynched him/her: they weren't too keen on banter about any club other than Spurs either. Obnoxious they were and the ale was mediocre too, but it was the nearest boozer to my flat at the time.Gooner Girl wrote:No, but didn't feel very comfotable when made to put a jumper over my Arsenal shirt as a teenager just so my spurs supporting neighbour could have a drink in a Tottenham pub before a derby at WHL. The same with the bllx on the "trouble at school thread too". Shame, as I'd got to quite enjoy the Ax.
Batman .... sorry, Dwight Schrute's is bllx there too.
Was in Natwich this afternoon. Will not get much chance to see the Blues fest this year, which is a shame.
