Tonight's Football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Tom Ince of Blackpool is absolutely superb. Great to watch, too. Big move for him next season surely.

Championship showing itself as a league where anyone can beat anyone at any time yet again. A season-long dogfight this!

I wonder how many "doubles" will be done by one team over another over the course of the campaign

Aye - so I suppose the only measure you have is points and league position...

Must do better. :-)

No, you can measure them weekly.

I see why you didn't spot we were going down last season now. :-)

Generally as often as you think the clueless pillock in charge is going to take you down, unless:

1) You're clueless Indian Chicken Farmers
2) Us.

pretty sure that this has been mentioned before but here we go:

should Alladyce have been sacked during his reign?

Different circumstances financially.

Yes, you moved them when you threw a different manager into the mix.

On the same principle as you asked the question, we probably wouldn't have sacked Megson either... :-)

I moved them :conf: looks like I need the rules of engagement then :)

So current points and position only relates to the current manager?

Just trying to clarify, am sure that you understand :)

Not sure I do to be honest. Our current situation can only relate to our current manager, as we have no other manager that's currently managing us...

Yes we know that but judging on a game to game basis where did you stand with previous managers?

Jaffka, I'm confused as to what you're saying. Are you saying you should only sack a manager at the end of a failed season?

Are you saying that you only take the last result into consideration?

You brought Allardyce up, presumably referring to the 6/5 game losing streaks we suffered under him a couple of times.

However, I'm confused as to whether you're arguing taking a long term view or a short term one.

With Allardyce when we had bad spells, we had always overperformed previously. So if you took any sort of a sensible view you'd have still been delighted where we were coming out of those bad spells.

I'm not quite sure how you judge a manager on anything other than a combination of a) his historical performance at your club and b) his current performance at your club.

And the two are very much interlinked and crucial in making an assessment.

Allardyce as an example, first full season, promotion, second full season kept in the premiership, third full season stayed up, fourth full season - 8th in the top flight, fifth full season - 6th etc etc......

There was no point where Allardyce did anything other than overperform in terms of results. He may have ripped the club apart on leaving, and left us high and dry, but in terms of sacking, he never ever came close.

I'm not quite sure how you judge a manager on anything other than a combination of a) his historical performance at your club and b) his current performance at your club.as fans we do but those in charge of the club take other consideration into account, also for a bit of inside information players can be selected by some managers not just on their footballing skills but on the other external stuff that they get involved in

And the two are very much interlinked and crucial in making an assessment.

He may have ripped the club apart on leaving, and left us high and dry, but in terms of sacking, he never ever came close.which is right and he never should or would have, although I think that at the start of the third season when we started slow there were some mummerings
