Re: Tonight's Football
And Germany play Nederlands tonight to see who goes to the final. We play Sweden on Tuesday for the penultimate spot. I'm cautiously optimistic but proceeding with care in forecasting. Beyond here be demons...
Edit: France won 1-0 thanks to a dodgy penalty in extra time.. Okay, there was no ball contact in the challenge, but the it was the attackers legs that knocked the defender into her. No question France were the better side, they missed a pan full, but they won't have such an easy time against Germany.
Meanwhile, forget finals; beating Sweden is the target for us now. Come on..

Re: Tonight's Football
Tonight's the night. Two potential cup finals in view , the first tonight, us against Sweden, will decide if we get the second and play in the final.. The Lionesses will have to play out of their skins after beating Spain, and the other semi, France v Germany will be the ultimate test....but first, we must win tonight. Come on girls, you can do it..

We are in France at the moment but hoping to get to watch somehow. Be such a big boost for womens football in England if we could make the final. I’m not a fan of international football generally but find it much easier to get on board with the womens team then the mens!

Re: Tonight's Football
Looking forward to tonight's game at least the field won't be full of puffed up ponces like the premier league all cheating and diving living in the world of self importance where no one actually gives a stuff what they think.

Superb performance and wiped the floor with the number 2 ranked team in the world. Russo surely has to start the final! If that backheel had been scored by any player from the ‘big 4’ sky would be creaming themselves for months!

Good back heel but keeper should surely have done better. Nice to see our gooner Mead getting in on the action again!Burnden Paddock wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 10:09 pmSuperb performance and wiped the floor with the number 2 ranked team in the world. It was on in the background. Always nice to see England win at anything though. I think the Beeb messed up trying to interview folk at the end instead of focussing on the celebrations.Gooner Girl wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 10:18 pmThat was going quite well until the patronising ‘girlys’ Harry. Keeper was unsighted Tbf. Neither her nor the defender between her and Russo expected the improvisation.

Re: Tonight's Football
Euro Finalists. That's a terrific show from the Lionesses. First half was end to end and the bar was hit by our keeper not their forwards. Asslani though, is a real class act for Sweden. Second half we played confidently and well and I was glad to see Jill Scott and Alessi Russo get a chance. Ellen White is great up front and stepping over the ball for Beth Mead's goal was class, but Russo is a real find and that back heel was sheer magic. Beth England wasn't used but she's useful up front too. Biggest disappointment was the form of Lucy Bronze. She got turned inside out so many times by the Swedish wingers and front players and gave the ball away carelessly that she put our defence under more pressure that Sweden did so that she just had to score to redeem herself. Buck up Lucy, you're better than that.
The fight the girls showed second half was heartening; that's what we need to do against Germany. It may well be a single goal final and I hope it's ours. The team performance tonight was first class and the squad strength is a credit to manager Sarina Weigman.
Get in there now on Sunday and finish the job....

The back heel was a stoke of genius on the spur of the moment
