We now don’t have to suffer the joy of the Liverpool loving media and their unbearable fans. So at least thank god for small mercies.
You say that as if the 'somehow a victim' card isn't about to be played ;)

I know we're supposed to hate Burnley, but what the new owners have done there is dreadful.
Have to say I’ve always been entirely ambivalent to Burnley.

Agree about their new owners. Shocking. Feel for their fans.
Have to say, I really don't keep up to snuff with what the goings-on at clubs who we're not due to have dealings with, so forgive my ignorance if you will, but what have Burnley's new owners done?

Not following the ins and outs myself but I think in brief an American consortium bought them promising investment and next level yadda yadda. However it instead didn’t bring investment and left the club £90M worse off than previously. And they had a recall clause for £65M quid of debt arising from the takeover - which all appears to be borrowed - based on a number of factors one of which included relegation.

In essence they’ve been bought by folk who’ve stuck little if anything in but will take a heck of a lot out.

Someone who has followed more closely may have a more insightful view.

Thank the living Christ for that.

Am in a pub with a load of skinhead Everton fans who, on the day their team have got beat 5-1, have just got the champagne in.
Was at the Arsenal game yesterday and the loudest Everton fans got all day was when they heard the final City score!

Modric The difference. Total class. Who better than us know that if you don't take your chances, you lose. Madrid keeper M.O.T.M. Bale and Hazard couldn't get in the team.

Sit deep, defend your box, bit of pace up front…

Football just shows that for all the modern nonsense the old ways win these big games more often than not.

Ancelotti is just a master tactician and the likes of Klopp will never be able to do that.

Some big performances. Thought Carvajal, Courtois, Militao and Casimeiro were excellent. Rest did what they needed and scored one.

Agree. I thought Carvajal was outstanding. To the point of being one of the best full back performances you will ever see.

Toss up for those on your list for man of the match. Probably has to be Courtois though I think the players mentioned were the difference rather than Modric who obviously isn’t suited to a team playing in that way but did a job as a pro.

Almost like with 5 champions leagues Carvajal is pretty fecking handy!

Him and Courtois for motm. Modric one of the best to ever play the game. What a lovely little week.

The commentators kept saying Liverpool were the better side. They weren't. They were just busier.

Madrid played their game better than Liverpool played theirs and should have won about 3-0. Courtois was superb, but ala Burnley the goalie was given good chances to save everything by the defending of the team in front of him and the angles they forced Liverpool out to. He's positionally excellent and thanks to that his life was easier.

Not a beautiful football match, but genuinely interesting. Ancelotti is a genius.

Maybe a little unsurprising, but I was torn on which of their defenders to give MOTM to (probably Carvajal)...That said, Courtois still had to make the saves and the one he pushed onto the post was a lifesaver, because at that point, it wasn't too outlandish that they might have got a second.

Ancelotti made those defensive one-on-ones as easy for his guys as possible by playing so deep. The Real defenders ate the Liverpool lads for breakfast, because there was no space around them to exploit.

Liverpool are the best side in the world if you attack them and take risks, but they struggle if top teams hold a shape and ask them to pick locks. Being so deep meant Real could get touch-tight on the forwards and anything that came into the box got cleared.

It wasn't a wonderful game of flowing football, but it was brilliantly done by Madrid. Patient, organised play with safe passing - all of it executed by top class players who didn't feel the need to show off. Lesser sides make loads of mistakes when Liverpool press them, even when they try to be safe; but Real just don't panic.

Total Discipline rather than Total Football.

I don't think any Real Madrid supporters, will give two hoots how you want to classify it. :-)

If that we're true then surely Madrid's goalkeeper wouldn't have been as busy as he was.

How many times in the game did you think, "Oh my god, how have they not scored there?"

Once? Twice?

Madrid played them so well that they first subbed Diaz off and then changed their shape to try and force it.
