Isn't the proposed Black Players' Association name Racist

Wow the black footballers are proposing to set up a Black Players' Association.

surely this name is inherently racist as a
White Players' Association would be considered. Crazy

can't see this helping to get rid of racism at all, surely it will polarise black and white players apart!!

My thoughts exactly.
They're getting away with it because they're claiming its open to all ethnicities. The aims as I understand it is to promote black players within football. Surely we should be aiming for equality and not one ethnicity being favoured over another.
There are plenty of associations in Britain like this like Muslim sports clubs.
The only way they will truly get racism leveled out is by inclusion. We all want a less racist world but I honestly don't think this is the best way to address it.

I got the impression this was more likely to be a pressure group and is an effective means by which black players can apply pressure on a union they feel is not supporting them to the degree they feel necessary.
I thought any group excluding individuals on the basis of their skincolour was in essence racist. certainly a white union that insisted it would not allow black members would appear to be racist.I'd imagine there is potential for the formation of a breakaway union that would be supported by black members but may well include white members aswell in order for them to show solidarity with their colleagues.
Could become very divisive within clubs I'd imagine but if enough players feel strongly about it then perhaps it is necessary.

If they are unsatisfied with the way existing organizations are dealing with the problem then I can understand the desire to start their own organization. I don't care for the idea of a Black Player's Association though. I'm sure there are plenty of white and Asian players who also think more needs to be done to combat racism.

I've changed the thread title and my original post to reflect that it's the proposed name of the Association that appears racist to me as would one with White in the title.
An association name like
Footballers Against Racism would be quite acceptable.

Shite players like Roberts are building a whole career out of this.
Rio calls someone a choc ice and then complains that there isn't enough being done about racism

There is no doubt racism is still present both in society and football but creating a Black Players' Association will only help create the division not bring bring everyone closer together.
If they do have a Black Players' Association it will in no way help to eradicate racism in football. It may result in strikes by some black players who are unhappy with any future incidents.

Except that's not what it is ... it is, by it's title, an Association for Black players.
Hence players who are not black .... white ones, Hispanic ones, Asian ones would not be able to be full members.
That would be racist, I'd have thought.

I would think most Trade Unions in the UK (if not all) have Black members groups within them. If they felt it was necessary why didn't they set something up within the PFA?

For quite a while now, the pair of them of them have been in the public eye mostly because of Twitter / media whoring, rather than actual football performances. Both like the sound of their own voices. Both seem to be throwing a tantrum because John Terry wasn't dealt with according to their wishes. Whether that was too lenient or not, they'd make more of a difference working with the authorities / PFA, rather than stropping off to set up their own private members club ("sorry mate, not tonight, black players only").
Witness the state of the game (and society) in Spain, Italy, Serbia / eastern Europe etc. Compare to how things have changed in Britain over the last few decades. It might not be perfect, and most likely never will, but to claim people aren't trying hard enough just seems daft.

Rio is a self-obsessed clown, with the intellect of a 5yr old. He probably called the drugs-tester a racist before driving off too.
Jason Roberts won't be happy until he's hosting MOTD, the rest of us won't be happy until he's retired and left the country. I've never seen anyone as smug as him when he realised the TV camera's were more interested in him sat on the bench than his Reading team-mates during their last match.
charlies making headlines - and they're now in charge of football for the forseeable future.
