Sol Campbell - Race stopped me being England captain

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Sol Campbell - Race stopped me being England captain

Post by Harry Genshaw » Mon Mar 03, 2014 8:16 pm

Anyone see his interview this morning

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvktv7fpve0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I always rated him as a player but God has he got a high opinion of himself. Anyone who describes themselves as charismatic surely foregoes that privilege!

He's probably got a point re Michael Owen but why wasn't he pushed on his claims further? Does he think the guys picking the captain (Sven, McClaren etc) were racist? :conf:

I think it has more to do with his book coming out (rather than Sol Campbell).

Now't to do with his colour, Owen looked prettier in the sponsors pics.

There's a screw loose in his brain-box. That's why he didn't get it.

Though it didn't stop Tony Adams.

Now, why didn't he say it at the time? Was he frightened of losing his place as if they were racist he would indeed be scared. Is it safe to call him a tosser of the first order and taking a turn to himself will get the phlegm off his chest? Tosser! 8)

He lost all right to even look at, let alone take, any moral high-ground the way he behaved demanding his whole contract be paid up while Pompey went south .... and promptly turning up at 3td Division Notts County, earning similar massive money only to walk the moment that began to be less than forthcoming.

One greedy b@stard.

Walking out on an Arsenal game at half-time was another strong moment.

Surely his move from Spurs to Arsenal (after vowing to Spurs fans that he wouldn't) would have alienated him from a section of the England crowd.

Seeing 'Judas' signs at an international wouldn't have been very good.

He was a very good player.

Stuff to dislike about him, mainly off the field stuff but on the whole I thought he was alright.

Without doubt an excellent defender.

But I demand an enquiry as to why Paul Ince was selected as captain over him. It can only be overt racism.

Captains in her era were Stuart Pearce (tick), Tony Adams (tick), Paul Ince (tick) , Alan Shearer ( never really a fan of centre forwards being captains if I'm honest), Paul Ince and David Beckham.

But money the grabbing, excuse making, loyalty free zone that is Sol Campvell blames it on his race.

Not using the sexuality card then Solly ?

Must have a book coming out.

I don't like forwards being captains either, or goalkeepers and wide midfielders.

Much prefer centre halves and then centre midfielders.

Unlikely given this :D:

To be honest I do kind of feel sorry for him. From everything I've read he just seems like a really odd bloke. Not easy to be in football or the limelight generally! But I think that's why, despite being a top defender, he didn't make it as captain. And yeah, Paul Ince somewhat undermines his point. Can't think of any black players to play for England who've seemed like 'leaders' since. Apart from Rio Ferdinand (who doesn't really fit that mould anyway). Oh yeah, but he was made captain till he got too injured.

Back briefly on Campbell, he's supposedly said that any money he gets off Portsmouth he's going to give to charity, so not sure the 'greed' angle works there.

If I wasn't black, I'd have been the Worsley Town captain.

A couple of points, firstly I remember my dad in hysterics about Sol's claims(spuds fan....) and him listing everything he had done morally wrong from the Spurs/ Arsenal transfer to the Notts County show me the money thing, he reminded me that 2 of the most important values of any good leader are trustworthiness and loyalty and how Sol has shown to be massively lacking in both. He made the point that his character was the sol(pardon the pun) and only reason for him never being made captain.

My second point is that Spurs are one of the few southern teams to take decent numbers of supporters away for England games and especially did so when Hoddle was manager and so making Sol captain would ensure 100s of Judas signs at every away game and booing.
"Oh f**k off you daft southern c**t"

Picture Wes Brown, but black instead of orange.
