Yes, it was less then excellent, but I'm not putting it all down to the manager Pru. For a start, we were playing a different Hungary than a month ago. They learned lessons and applied them, thus making it very difficult (when combined with their " If you can't get the ball, get the man! tactics plus fouls and time wasting), The Hungarians (awful pun) were hungrier than our lacadaisical gladiators, and we would still have won but for that dodgy penalty (Shaw was watching the ball when the forward dived in at it and made a real meal of it knowing he was near the box) despite their attractive and skilled attacks second half. .

We really missed the injured Harry McGuire and Shaw isn't surely our best choice at left back?(not the first time I've said that and I know I won't be agreed with) Every time he got the ball and was challenged, back it went a la Rio Ferdinand. Stones can't get in United's team right now and Sterling can't get in the City side, not too hard to see why on last night's showing. Harry Kane has gone right off the boil and if Gareth Southgate is guilty of much, it's surely a failure to see that, although his double-barrel named replacement is also injured.
Last point. Winning 25-0 against the San Marinos in our group proves little. We'll need to be really on song from now on. Poland and now Hungary seem to prove that.
Not asking for agreement as the views are mine, but I'm maintaining the points.
See Sky have grabbed everything in sight tonight, including the England U21 v Czech Republic U21. Typical.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 8:30 pmFriday, 12th November 19:45
England v Albania
FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifier
Bolton play Crewe same night at 8-0'clock.
At least he’s finally realised Ben White is a decent defender!Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 5:11 pmI have no particular axe to grind with Southgate, but he really doesn't do himself any favours.
At today's press conference he pointed to current form as being a key factor in deciding his final squad for the World Cup. I mean, amen to that - we kick off in 10 day's time.
However, this was after the squad was announced - a squad containing Harry McGuire, Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling and..... remember this lad? Calvin Phillips.
And well deserved, too.Gooner Girl wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 6:08 pm

He’s done great things with England but I found his comments about selection about as bizarre as they come. I think he’s clueless.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 5:11 pmI have no particular axe to grind with Southgate, but he really doesn't do himself any favours.

Perhaps he's going off England form, but even that doesn't justify it as England have been woeful of late.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 8:35 pmHe’s done great things with England but I found his comments about selection about as bizarre as they come. The midfield we have is so woeful that I can’t see us competing with the better sides so it might all be a bit academic anyway. Kane is also to me way off the boil. None of the players you list should be anywhere near a squad with ambitions of going deep.
Kane off the boil? He's got 11 prem goals and would be top if Haaland wasn't so prodigiousBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 8:35 pmHe’s done great things with England but I found his comments about selection about as bizarre as they come. Kane's off the boil for England but not Spurs. The lack of testing alternate options shows how narrow minded Southgate's been in the build up to this World Cup, not necessarily over the course of his England managerial career but definitely lately.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 4:11 pmKane off the boil?
