My in-laws next door neighbour's lad has just turned 15 and plays for the academy. He won academy player of the year last season..

He and 6 others in his 'year' are on a standby list to appear for the first team in pre-season friendlies.

In anticipation of this happening, the academy director (under instruction, I've not doubt) has made all the 15-17 yo's train throughout the summer without a break, to make sure they're in shape for it.

Really is incredible

My question is though, BP. If you're in with a shout of turning pro would you really want a break?

15 to 16 is a big year academically.

The chances of them making it are still slim.

Unfair pressure on the players and parents?

You don't win anything with kids.

Except the FA Youth Cup.

Reminds me a bit of when Portsmouth we're in a similar fix a couple years ago. They only got to play one pre-season friendly, against us, with OC's finest ended up losing 3-0 to a rag-bag side that consisted mostly of trialists.

They've been training and playing 3-4 days a week for over a year, without let up. In all conditions. He's still growing and whilst (like you say), he doesn't want a break as he absolutely loves it. He is pretty f*cked and his step-dad for one, is worried that at some point, he's going to hit a wall

Talk that Riga has now gone. They managed to sign another player today. Ishmael Miller. Wouldn't have been disappointed if we'd gone for him
