Darren Pratley - yeh or nah

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Darren Pratley - yeh or nah

Post by charltonfan » Fri Aug 30, 2019 4:40 pm

:D We (charlton) have had our fair share of bolton players
in the past, as you have a fair amount of ours
Dervite,Magennis,Wilson to name a few
and oztumer, amos and pratley to go the other way as of late

What bamboozles me the most is the fact that despite 8 years of playing for bolton he isnt popular with the fans, Just thought I would make this thread to ask what your original opinions of the fella is
us as charlton fan regard him as a fans favourite, a tough tackling, experienced box to box midfielder who has a canny knack of winning fouls all over the show
I would say he has been our best midfielder this season and havent seen him give the ball away

ps.
sorry if u dont want foreign fans on your forum

He was clueless about his surroundings. He didn't mesh. He was selfish. Apart from that, he was okish.

Fans of other teams welcome for discussion, less so for trash-talking. We've enough of our own idiots without needing a recruitment drive.

Darren is a limited but whole-hearted player whose time at the club coincided with an alarming demise. That may be an unfair link but lots of fans were disappointed with him at an increasingly irate time in the club's life. As usual, tales of high wages didn't help, although I have to say he never lacked effort... just occasionally some intelligence...

I'm genuinely glad he's doing well for you. I can't say everyone here will be. But it's funny, he feels as distant as black and white TV. You can imagine: your boys have been through similar, and worse.

Good luck.

Various central midfield iterations. Sometimes stationed deep, sometimes ranging further forward, sometimes chasing the ball like a dog in a garden, sometimes as a quasi-target man at No 10. I shit you not. We've seen some things.

"chasing the ball like a dog in a garden," ...
That is my overriding impression of Darren Pratley.

He summarises the Coyle era. Significantly overpaid, limited ability and here for far too long.

I liked Pratley. Whatever shortcomings he may have had, I never questioned his effort nor commitment.

Solid pro, good luck to the fella.

It's mad that he was here for 8 seasons because he was rarely warmly received by the fans. Had his good days and bad days, consistency wasn't really his thing but he seemed like a model pro who always had effort on his side. Our time in League One could have been his peak season but he got injured in the first game and was out until Feb I think.

You missed out Fiiiiiiiiiish, you can't miss out Fish, or Claus Jensen :) It's interesting because I believe he was the fans favourite at Swansea also, from whom we signed him. Utterly frustrating for us. When we needed a CM to step up to the plate he was missing/clueless/both. The only time he looked anything like a decent player was when we signed the septuagenarian Karl Henry and stuck him next to him. Couldn't wait to get him off the over-inflated wage bill of which he was a key recipient

Blimey, when I was a kid we got football annuals for Christmas. I remember one of mine had a picture of Charlton's Sam Bartram...that's a long time ago.... :D

He was dogshit for 7.5 of those 8 years. No faulting his effort and it probably wasn't his fault but he became emblematic of our slide down the leagues. Over-paid, under-talented, I was genuinely delighted when I heard we were releasing him, but again that might not have wholly been around D-Pratz.

Still, I'll always remember him for a (exceedingly rare) good performance at the Den that caused my non-Bolton supporting, ocularly-challenged, knew-how-much-I-disliked-him pal to christen him "the white Yaya Toure".

Often dreadful but for me no worse than Josh Vela who our fans liked.
Played well with danns under Lennon for a spell and clearly a superb athlete with a great workrate. Definitely underrated IMO but can't say I miss him.

Anthony Barness came from you guys as well? Funnily enough I recall he hadn’t been that well thought of at yours but was a decent defender in various positions for us.

I always liked Prayley as a bloke; unfortunately his arrival pretty much coincided with our downward spiral - he was signed and viewed as a replacement for Holden / Muamba when we lost both of those unfortunately...and he never reached those heights.

Captained Us for a fair while as well. Plenty won’t complement him but he never hid and gets a thumbs up from me.
