The Rest of League One 23/24
Seems like we should probably have a thread where we can note stuff that happens at other club and the potential impact on the league.
Big news today as Michael Duff (expectedly) moves to Swansea. That really may be a game changer and it'll take a brilliant appointment to keep Barnsley's aspirations as high as Duff had them, given that they are also likely to shed key players.

The winners here are Michael Duff and the rest of League One.
That said, I have my doubts as to how well he'll do at Swansea. His and Martin's approaches are light years apart.

The Reading situation is looking worserer and worserer.
They were embargoed for breaches of financial fair play. Then charges related to failure to pay loan wages were added. Now it turns out they've also not paid PAYE to our dear friends at HMRC.
Their owner is currently being sued for £195m by a bank.
"Suboptimal", I think is the word.

Reports currently are "an internal appointment", but their fans aren't keen.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 5:36 pmDarren Moore for Barnsley? They need a good appointment.

Wigan managing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, as their best players seek to walk away from their contracts.

Ah the little Sam school of appointments. Rarely works well but you can understand the logic from a board perspective.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 6:55 pmReports currently are "an internal appointment", but their fans aren't keen.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 5:36 pmDarren Moore for Barnsley? Reading's Tom Ince is no longer Reading's Tom Ince, having thrown himself head-first at the lucrative revolving door that used to be Watford FC.

I'm in the strange position with Reading where I obviously want them to fail miserably, but mates support them to I don't want it to get really bad. They have enough financial issues right now.
If they can get Ovie Ejaria fit he'll be a major force at this level. Big if, though.

Barnsley's kit is... erm...
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/20232 ... 2324-kits/
"Among the various iconic kits throughout the years, the "Shaw Carpets" kit from the 1989/1990 season stood out for its distinctive appearance and significance as Barnsley FC entered a momentous decade...
"...special attention was given to Toby Tyke, the club's beloved mascot. As part of this exciting collaboration, a new badge and colour scheme were introduced for the third kit, which also features Toby's face subtly integrated into the side panel....
"The essence of Barnsley FC's spirit is encapsulated in the club's ethos of "Winning is Being Barnsley." It represents the core values of authenticity, determination, and resilience that define the club. Being true to who we are at all times, with muck, nettles, grit, and backbone, is at the heart of our identity. Understanding ourselves and bringing that essence to the world is what it means to be Barnsley..."

Looks like a US national kit. Especially with the sponsorship.

My thoughts too. Doesn't scream Barnsley, Yorkshire or anything remotely relevant to me.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 10:56 pmLooks like a US national kit. Especially with the sponsorship.

Re: The Rest of League One 23/24
Barnsley have appointed Neill Collins, who has been coaching over in America. Very strong rep over there, but a huge step up in quality to come to England; even at League One level.
Impossible to say how this will go, but as things stand it has to be better than them appointing a known quantity with a good track record in England.

Re: The Rest of League One 23/24
Barnsley apppint.... Neill Collins. A 39-year-old who has only managed at Tampa Bay Rowdies. It's an interesting decision - I thought they might go for Chris Wilder, which might have worried me more...
