The Rest of League One 23/24

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Plummeting Oxford further weakened by the loss of keeper James Beadle. Brighton have recalled him to bounce him up to D2 with Sheffield Wednesday. Worth noting that we were after him - so it's a nice counterpart to all that lovely chat about Nathan Baxter.

Blow for a very promising kid, but excellent news for us!

Had he gone off with Geth to Qatar?

Wonder if he's one we might look at next year if we go up.

...and they don't?

Must say I'm starting to fear Derby more than Pompey.

Even if they do we might have a look. They'd probably be in pole position but we're local for city keeping an eye and have the Traf goodwill.

It's a mad league. I'd rather be us than anyone else, but tough to separate any of the top 4 right now. And Barnsley and Oxford will fancy their chances too.

Would be good to keep targets from our rivals...
. .
...but some of them appear to be spending money... (journo Pete O'Rourke had the bid at £250k)
.

Steve Evans re-recruits the big man who did a lot of damage for him at Gillingham.

Oxford have apparently won out in the battle for Will Goodwin.

Massive work rate and lots of physicality in the final third to go with the creativity they added over the summer.

He's also probably got huge resale potential for them.

The risk is putting your promotion push on the shoulders of a young lad who has only just broken through.

Regardless, Oxford will be delighted and feel they've sorted that position out for years to come.

Is Appleton speed-dating every L1 striker?

He's signed Alfie May and wants to play "lump it to the big man" football

Glorious. Let them crack on. What's this now...the 6th target man they've gone after?

Gutted for young Leaburn, but it's funny to watch them scramble.

Well, he didn't sign Alfie May. You wonder if May would have gone had Appleton been there, but that definitely seemed a "geographical" transfer to me.

I assume he wants May playing "off" a big'un.

Aye, that's fair. Appleton rocked up in September. I forgot.

He's been playing May off the wing at times, I believe. With a lump up top.

The Blackett-Taylor deal has gone through. An initial loan, guaranteed fee in the summer. Which might back up all those rumours of a cashflow crisis at Derby holding up their deals.

Regardless, they've just added one of the best wingers in the division to an already good squad.
