The Rest of League One 23/24

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Like BWFCi, I'm worried about Derby, who are growing and growling
They started the season with a lot of fitness issues and their rise has coincided with getting players fit.

However, some of those fit players are notorious crocks so whether they stay at this will depend on how good their medical team are.

They will, as Insane says, likely spend like madmen again. That is combined with the fact that their goals are annoyingly well-spread through their side and not focused in one nice, breakable package.

Experience, goals, money and a solid defensive foundation? Na, we'll shit 'em...10 points clear by April. Easy.

Interesting that re the fitness. I always felt Warne would get Derby up and running and I'd not have been unhappy if they'd sacked him, when a lot of their fans were clamouring for it in September. A loss for them last night, might have slowed their momentum. Coming back from 2 down to win, well....

Portsmouth are obviously decent but an inexperienced manager could be an issue.
Peterborough and Barnsley both look like they'll go the distance. Biggest surprise for me have been Blackpool. They looked good at ours. That was a heavy defeat last night.

We look in superb shape at the moment, after today's games.

Posh beating Derby leaves the Rams 5 adrift. Posh are 2 behind, but we have the game in hand.

Oxford 5 back, again with a game in hand. Barnsley how down 8.

If we win our game in hand our nearest chasers in the play off pack need to win 2 more games than us (we must lose, not simply draw) to pass us. For Barnsley and Oxford that's 3 games and not just 2.

We're not relying on anyone else now. It's all about our performances. Continuing winning at a good rate and we go up. Dead simple.

Yeah that’s a bad result for the old Pompey.

8 points and a game in hand over 7th matters, in case of disaster of some kind.

We're all looking up, though. We've a proper chance now.

Pompey's results since their fans confidently told us we'd just watched the champions:

I did estimate that half a mill would get JCH...
. .
Charlton have also loaned Sheffield Wednesday's Tyreeq Bakinson – a longtime Ghost favourite - and Man City's Lewis Fiorini, borrowed by Michael Appleton at a third different club. It's shaping up into a good window for the Addicks - but I thought that in summer...

Well, I agree with them and think we had just watched the champions that night. Just a shame we lost that game.....

There's a US Civil War quote that can be applied to this.

"There was one great flaw in Michael Appleton's season. I concede he brought superior players to games, but he also brought himself."

May and JCH will be on paper some strike force. Unrivalled at this level if they can put it together.

Appleton wants JCH in as a lone striker, with May off the right.

Will still be amazing firepower at this level. Would be decent enough a level up.

Seems Appleton has convinced the board they need a more experienced player than Leaburn to lead the line. Big switch from the summer, when the young lad being injured was seen as not a good enough reason to sign a centre forward; because his development was too important and he had to play once back fit.

Warm applause for Darren Clarke at Cheltenham. They looked a lost cause as early as August when us, and just about everyone else, whupped em at something to nil. They may still be in the bottom 4 but look a much tougher nut to crack now and must be treated cautiously and with respect.

1 point from the first 9.

22 in the 16 since they appointed Clarke.

Solid mid table side now.

Smith would be a weapon, as usual, but who'd have him? Derby?

Charlton could have as good a window as anybody in World Football. It matters little when you've not got a good manager
