Leicester 0 - 5 Bolton - The Premiership Show
Spotted this throwback to the 1st episode of The Premiership, back in the day when we won 5 nil on the opening day, only for the main showpiece to drop an absolute clanger by giving the game of the day less time than Ravanelli eating Spaghetti. Not a joke btw.
Bolton's highlights come directly after the Ravanelli skit aswell. Embarassing all round.

One of the relatively unheralded but major advances in TV highlights is that covering every game has given editors/producers the ability to select the order of games.
If you watch an old episode of The Big Match on one of the ITV47 channels it's usually one 'feature' match plus sometimes the goals from another. If they chose wrong and it was a clunker, then a clunker ye would watch.
Easy to think of the Premier era as all being modern but it seems ITV had committed to a certain match line-up and had to stick to it. But then their ad department might well say "just stick United on first so we get retention". It's one of MOTD's beauties that if Palace-Luton is the best game, they'll put it on first, ignoring the commercial "imperatives" to which so much media are beholden.

Maybe THAT game was a turning point in British football. The fact that little Bolton managed to come on and show up their flagship show on the first day probably made the bosses think about the format and how they react to it. Had it been a different game week they may have probably thought oh it happens but seeing as it was that day and that moment and they could only put out Ravanellis clip instead they probably thought this needs to change.
I do remember at the time there was an apology given. I thought it was on the day but maybe it was press articles as i didnt see anything on the video. iirc they had paid for a certain amount of minutes and didn't have the flexibility to change.
Sliding doors moment. Perhaps.
