Ah yes, forgot Fleetwood were still in it.

That was us at our worst. Pedestrian and short of ideas. Midfield were awful in the first half. Taylor and Madine were badly missed. Moxey looks bereft of confidence and I can't see him being the answer until the seasons end.

Despite all the jokes about six nil etc, under the circumstances it was no bad result at all. Chesterfield were playing for their very lives and it's always as much about what the rest do as what we do in a league . Points-wise you can't go backwards in league positions, only forward or stay as you are. Today, results made it no bad day for us because we gained a point on the main ones that matter. Scunthorpe look to have shot their bolt totally and Fleetwood lost. If we accept that Sheffield will have to do something daft not to win the league, results elsewhere will always be as important as ours. Today, fate was kind to us. Shame for the great fan support we didn't get three points, but we got one.

Today clearly, clearly demonstrated how important Madine is to us. Half the side without him.

Yeah we missed Madine. It didnt stick up top at all. But we need to find a way to win without him. Unfortunately long and clayton anonymous. Either of those should of dropped deeper, wide to pull their defence out of shape but neither did it. Spearings use of ball poor. Moxey shite aye but he's so short on confidence he is scared of getting the ball. Chested the ball out of play in first half when nobody near him!
We were left with one outlet today and it played it to their hands. I have to say for a team who need wins it was a very negative set up - but I suppose it got them a point and nearly 3 if their first half chance had gone in.
Great news re fleetwood and I think playing majority away helps us now as well. We look more like winning away!

True - but if we haven't got that target, don't play that way... The first half was dire, the second poor...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 6:41 pmToday clearly, clearly demonstrated how important Madine is to us. Half the side without him.

This, indeed. Their defence coped pretty well in the air but didn't like us running at them. So all first half and a fair amount of the second we punted it at Alf and Long, head height. If they won one, cleanly, between them I'd be fairly surprised.WTW wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 7:10 pmTrue - but if we haven't got that target, don't play that way... Unfortunately, the other team complicates matters quite often. It's very easy to say "well, don't play that way", but when the opposition nullify the movement of the front two and don't allow any space in the channels or between the midfield and the front two, you find that you have no choice but to go long.WTW wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 7:10 pmTrue - but if we haven't got that target, don't play that way... How else do we play with that midfield? Even when we got going a bit it was crosses going into the box that neither Clayton nor ALF were really suited to.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 7:16 pmThis, indeed. Madine, is critical to us. Just like Davies was for years in the premiership. Just accept it.
PPG when Madine hasn't started is 0.57. It's blindingly obvious. Anyway, sounds like he's back Tuesday.

Other strikers should come short/wide whatever to create gaps. Long and Clayton piss poor today. Didnt make any good runs at all. Get why Wilkinson played when Madine was "ill" t'other week now.
If Madines out again tues id look at another option like that lad from birmingham.

We got one more point against them today than last time we got beaten by them. In which Madine lasted a full 90 minutes.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 7:20 pmHow else do we play with that midfield? 2nd bookable offence. He lay on the ball preventing the quick free kick. That's how I saw it anyway

We lacked Madine today. End of story. Critical to the team at this level.

We certainly missed Madine but missed Taylor too. A midfield of Spearing, Pratley, Vela and Morais should be too much for a struggling league 1 side, even carrying a passenger like Moxey.
They're good enough footballers to have played through Chesterfield if the long ball option isn't available but Morais aside, I thought they let us down badly today. Pratley was much better in the 2nd half tbf

We undoubtedly did miss him. Because we played like he was still there. Alf, Long and Clayton all going to be better with ball down channel, into feet... Not punted at head. The fact we weren't bright enough to do that exacerbated us missing him.
Taylor was also a big miss for us.

Re: 5,4,3,2,1... Chesterfield (H) 1/4/2017
Agree with this. Alf is not that type of player and Long has pace to burn so why did/do we insist on playing long ball when those two are on the pitch?Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 7:54 pmWe certainly missed Madine but missed Taylor too. Sub choices were also slightly wonky today. I'd have put Henry on earlier and thought about playing Karacan in the Moxey role from the start

It's a +1 from me. And that's not a dig at Madine.
