It seems the PNE's finally dropped: Preston v Bolton 17/11/2017

Post by bristol_Wanderer3 » Wed Nov 15, 2017 1:54 pm

A couple of days to go before this very important local derby, surely time for a match thread.

It seems the penny has dropped for us as a Championship outfit for sure, with an unbeaten run of five games, including wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich who are expected to be challenging at the top end of the table. The change over the October international break was as dramatic as could be, with an instant impact from the returning Vela and Ameobi, adding to the newly created central midfield of Henry and Henry-inspired Pratley, seeing us going from condemned no-hopers to a reasonable looking team. Gradual improvements came over the next few games, which saw us lose leads three times in a row, before we survived Norwich's early onslaught and showed a much needed mental strength at both ends of the pitch to secure a relatively comfortable victory. This has left us needing the change over this November international break to be as non-existent as possible. It seems we have no new injury worries however, not even to Gary Madine's knuckles or throwing arm.

Preston on the other hand have gone from 6th to 14th in the same period, starting with a draw snatched from the jaws of victory at Fulham after a 96th minute goalkeeping disaster and then four successive defeats, the last two (2-0 at home to Villa, and 3-0 at Ipswich), suggesting confidence levels might have dropped as significantly as their league position. A defence that had conceded six goals in the first eleven games, has conceded thirteen in the last five, not helped by a ridiculous injury list featuring seven defenders. Incredibly for a club on a limited budget the squad actually has twelve defenders in it, the majority experienced at this level, so they can at least put out a defence, but it has clearly affected them. This weekend might come too soon for any of the defenders to return, with two of them, Calum Woods and 6ft 5in left back Josh Earl, touch and go. In some respects it might be interesting to see Earl back, with a 6ft 4.5in Ameobi facing up to a 6ft 5in left back. Surely a height record for a winger/full back match up?? Defence isn't the only issue for PNE, with their sought after striking spearhead Jordan Hugill, suspended, and influential attacking midfielder/forward Sean Maguire out for months with a torn hamstring.

If this game had happened last weekend then momentum would have been completely in our favour and Preston would've been for sure unable to get any of their injured defenders back. These international breaks however have a habit of re-setting winning/losing mentalities so this should be a close game. Over 3000 Wanderers fans will be behind the goal and I predict they will head back down the M61 jubilant after a hard fought 2-1 victory. COYW.

Bravo on the thread title. 2-0 one way or the other [took a leak in the woods and managed to piss on the dog and then myself. No self-respecting haruspex could possibly interpret that as anything other than a two-niller].

Just a reminder; don't forget it's on Friday night, not Saturday. That said, 3-0 is just as good either one.

Last six form, H/A: Bolton 12th (W2 D3 L1 F9 A8), Preston 24th (W0 D2 L4 F8 A15).

Those last six PNE results (in chronological order):
H D 2-2 Sunderland
A D 2-2 Fulham
A L 2-3 Wolves
H L 2-3 Brentford
H L 0-2 Villa
A L 0-3 Ipswich

...so they started off making a fight of it but have lost their way to goal.

Make sure you affirm that in writing witnessed by your solicitor. And then your descendants (or nearest relatives) will be able to show provenance when they present a bag of white stuff on the Antiques Roadshow in 2093. Which coincidentally will be the year we achieve the record number of champions of the Premiership titles. (the letter will also be helpful when transporting the bag across international frontiers  )

The case might be strengthened by photographic evidence here :)

 It was really quite straightforward. Took dog for a walk... offlead in the woods. Stood on path aiming into trees for emergency leak (torch in pocket as I'm not supermultidextrous) only to find the dog's wandered into the jet stream. In panicked adjustment (out of guilt, trying not to soak the dog) I adjusted aim too severely and managed a dose down left leg.
