Impressive result, especially as this team should gel and get better.

Outstanding,
Even if we lose the next ten it's a better start than last term

Superb! I'd have been over the moon with a point, so to nick it at the end is glorious. Going off SSN commentary it's not like we didn't deserve it. Matched WBA and gave as good as we got. Top job.

Guilty!

Jumped up when both went in, and delighted to be proved wrong.

Defence was immense all game. Game plan was to absorb the pressure and nick it. Job done.

Oh and we had 4 shots on target to their 3. Stick that in your pipe....

If Paweł Olkowski plays like that every game we're going to be ok on the right wing. Defended well and came out looking to pass forward.

Magennis was excellent up top on his own. Get used to running that much every game pal. Felt like Madine had worked out in the gym and gone on an extended holiday.

For a team that has only been together for a short while, that result is massive. West Brom hadn't lost a pre-season friendly and were expected to walk all over them.

So chuffed they got what they deserved. Both camps.

What a result. Got to say Parky got the tactics right. They were way to physical for us if he didn't start all those DMs.
I've got to say Gary O'Neill still got it - enough for a closeout sub anyway. Perfect sub in that pressure cooker, just chased and positioned well and calmed everyone down.

Man of the match: Lowe

Ratings
8 AlnwicK -not much to do but looked very composed. Goal was unstoppable. One of our top 5 or 6 players
9 Olki. Close for MoM. Classy, composed and good passer as well. One of our best players.
7 Wheater: Made a couple of crucial challenges -wasn't really tested one-on-one as our deep lying formation cluttered the box. Lucky cause their strikers looked good.
7 Beevers same as above.
7 Taylor is limited and tiny but tries hard and is defensive first and foremost which we needed today. Had a torrid time but their ball carriers are really strong.
9 Lowe. Must have had 10 intercepts. The deep formation suits him just sits in the crowd and lunges out to intercept
7 Murphy largely anonymous but competent enough and chased. His size we need.
8 Vela ran all day. That's his thing and we need it as we're undersized and under-powered.
8 Sameobi, most ball-skilled player on the park. Injury is a big worry.
8 Buckley was there to do a job which was run about on D which he did. Starting Wildschut would have been disastrous until they wear down.
7 Magennis got the goal and competed for bunch of headers and won most of them. Not the most skilled but god knows we need his muscle.

Subs
7 Noone deserved to be subbed in. He ran about and harried so did a good job. Not the best option taker and not|SAmeobi level.
8 Gary O'Neil. Filled the gaps. glue guy. His lack of power was fine against a tiring side. More constructive than just a destroyer type. I was underwhelmed by his signing but he has bench value as a closer.
7 Wildschut came on and looked a little lost until he tucked the goal away. Had one great dribble so potential is still there.

Them. They have six or seven players that would walk into our starting lineup. Uniformly strong and powerful looked like an Argentinian rugby team. They dominated possession and passed it about but we had the better chances and won more headers once we got over our fear.
What could've happened; did.

WTF! I must be in a parallel universe because a win against anyone, especially WBA, on the first day of the season has just sobered me up. (I was drinking to dull the inevitable pain).
