God, if Celtic came in for him that'd be perfect. Save compensation and still get rid.Riviman wrote:http://the72.co.uk/49895/bolton-wandere ... ic-return/?

Aye. But be different if we were approached by Celtic....Gary the Enfield wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:God, if Celtic came in for him that'd be perfect. Save compensation and still get rid.Riviman wrote:http://the72.co.uk/49895/bolton-wandere ... ic-return/?

Nope. Celtic won't pay compensation. Like Big Sam and Newcastle they'll (Lennon and Celtic) manoeuvre a way to extricate him and settle his contract. 'Twas ever thus.

I meant we'd not have to pay him off. Which would be nice. And he'd jump at the chance I'm sure.

Re: Lennon out!
The article speculates that Lennon might lose his job with us; it speculates that the Celtic manager might lose his job too; it speculates that, if that happened, then Lennon might be interested in the vacancy; and it speculates that Celtic might be interested in taking him back.
Brilliant piece of "journalism".

Re: Lennon out!
Isn't it cheaper to sack Lennon once relegation's confirmed?

Yeah, I was just gonna say: don't get excited. The story in Riviman's link seems entirely based on an opinion column in a Scottish red-top which merely conjecturises how it would add to the pressure on the current Celtic manager IF Lennon were a free agent.TonyDomingos wrote:The article speculates that Lennon might lose his job with us; it speculates that the Celtic manager might lose his job too; it speculates that, if that happened, then Lennon might be interested in the vacancy; and it speculates that Celtic might be interested in taking him back.

Two links later, it's CELTIC SET TO SWOOP FOR LENNON.

So I said:
I meant we would. Even if they came in for him. Otherwise Celtic would have to pay compensation for him as he's under contract to us. And they won't pay it. Because they don't need to. Which was my point.

Re: Lennon out!
I've read this idea a few times but not with any reliable insight. It would assume that a relegation penalty/release clause was built into the three-year contract granted by Eddie Davies after meeting Lennon. That's possible, but is it genuinely likely?Bruce Rioja wrote:Isn't it cheaper to sack Lennon once relegation's confirmed?

Nah. Celtic would pick up his contract. He'd walk away if he got another job. No chance he'd hang around here for the money if another job was on the cards.
Most of those compensation clauses are only UNTIL the manager takes another job. We were for example paying Megson till he took another job elsewhere.

I thought he bitched and whined to all and sundry that he couldn't get another job until his gardening leave wound down. In fact I'm almost fecking certain that's what he did.

Only because he would lose money by accepting a job on what would presumably have been less than our wage at the time But if Celtic came for Lennon, he'd either have to resign. Or wait to be sacked. Or wait for an agreement between the clubs.
He'd certainly not wait long I'd not have thought.

Your premise was we were paying Megson until he accepted another job. We weren't. We paid the nice person until his Gardening Leave ran down. He COULD have accepted other jobs during that time but chose not to.
And I repeat Celtic will not pay compensation to us for Lennon. And he will not walk.

Re: Lennon out!
That's true about Megson. He claimed his full gardening leave to the last penny-as he was perfectly entitled to. iirc the cnt was laughing and boasting about how he'd been to Australia sunning himself whilst on full pay from bwfc.

But I don't think Lennon would sit it out like that. If he got an offer he'd want to take it. That is my point. He will want to repair his career, if he can.

Re: Lennon out!
I don't necessarily disagree with you - which is quite amazing, considering we were bottom of the league when he took over. Yes, earlier in the season, but the idea that nobody in Bolton took that seriously enough is somewhat saddening.throwawayboltonian wrote:It's my personal conjecture, but I'll be surprised if they've included a relegation clause into his contract. The fact that we could realistically be relegated was far fetched to most fans (and most likely the board too) until this season when finances and performances began to sink in, even last season when we flirted with it following his arrival I think the majority of the fanbase didn't think relegation would be on the cards.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I've read this idea a few times but not with any reliable insight. As to the ongoing, badly-quoted Celtic/contract thing - I reckon a deal would be reached, with Lennon happily dropping his financial expectations from us.

Re: Lennon out!
I've just been watching some interviews on the official channel. And what Feeney says at 3:05 in this video is telling:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IQRrq8Ml76E" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Direct quote:
'There's not too much instruction, the gaffer sort of let's me play my game'.
Chopping and changing formations and then not imparting tactical discipline. Especially when you're playing players out of position. Fantastic. I imagine all 11 players receive a similar set of 'instructions'. No wonder we're a shambles.

Somebody asked Marc Iles directly on Twitter and he said £650k but 'a lot less' if relegated. He's since deleted the tweet so I don't know if that means he shouldn't have disclosed that he knew that, or that it was conjecture and possibly bollocks.
Could it be a standard feature of managerial contracts though? Performance-related bonuses for promotion are common so why not a relegation clause?
