Ameobi goal. Great finish and assist from Clough.

Was pretty nrevous right through this. I get the feeling we're a bit paranoid about giving free kicks away near our box because we don't (Spearing apart) seem to go in to tackle, preferring to show them here there and everywhere. In contrast, their defenders hit on us all over the place. Better finishers might also have done for us today because their approach play and passing were very good all game, Lavery in particular. That said, the ref let a throw be taken thirty yards too far forward ..and they scored their first. Their second was a bit badly defended by us. On the plus side we had a few well worked chances that a good performance by their keeper kept from being a big score. For me, Wheater's shot looked over the line and maybe Madine should have done a bit better from Clough's set up. Madine's goal was well taken and Sammi's shot a corker.

Sheffield look to be worthy of their league position and we'll have to be on our toes playing them. Good result and well done the Whites.... :oyea:

1-0 Machine
2-0 Ameobi
2-1 Coutts
3-1 Vela
3-2 O'Connell

Very good game. They were better in possession we always seemed to have just that little extra quality at either end where it counts.

Sat on a two goal lead second half and it nearly cost us. Have to stop doing that. We will be ok against most sides in this league but Sheff Utd are a class above and moved the ball quickly and eventually we were chasing shadows.

Vela was outstanding today. Fingers crossed for a food third round tie.

Thought we were the better team until we went 2 up! We gave the ball away so much after that, only Derik coming on looked composed.

Three really good goals from us. Cracking clever finish by Madine, belter from Ameobi (is he as good with wither foot?) and a great run and first touch by vela. Should of been more comfortable, but fair feck* to yooonyted not many will score twice against us.

Wheats walked back in the side- harsh on Derik but they are a great partnership.

The problem is that's his only finish. He'd have hit it the same had he been dead centre of the goal and it would have gone three yards wide, to the left. It was just fortunate that it was three yards past the right hand post when he got to it.

I know it’s been said before but how much more of an impact does Vela make in that advanced position? His chasing down of their goalkeeper directly leads to the build up of our second goal, and his first touch for our third instantly takes their centre back out of the equation.

I just hope that we manage to keep hold of him, Clough and Spearing in the window.

Have to say that was one of Madine's better games. He actually looked like he wanted to score. Did good work in the build up to Vela's goal too..

He pretty much was there on his ooown - a shade over 7,000 in attendance today. Weren't there more at the Grimsby game?

I reckon that Wheater effort crossed the line.

Bet we will frustrate a few teams this season. Am sure fans go away saying 'Bolton looked nowt special for most of the game'.We have a look of Mourinho's old Chelsea team about us. We often don't play well in the traditional sense of high tempo, pressure or quick passing. We often look second best for periods of games as we did today.

But we have a mental and physical strength that seems to give us the edge. We have just enough flair and skill in the right areas to always be a threat even if we rarely attack.

I suspect week in week out Sheffield Utd will play 'better' than us but we have that knack of grinding out results. Fine lines. We could suffer with the wrong injury or loss of form or whatever. But right now we look like we have that beautiful knack of winning irrespective of how we play. Which is golden. I hope we hold onto it for as long as possible.
