Mate, you can hold whichever view you like. The reality is I stopped going for the first time since the age of eight when Megson was in charge.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2017 11:34 amIn retrospect I honestly think you'd have a different view. Impossible to say now, but we've got a pragmatic manager now probably not doing a lot different. I think expectations at the time were out of sync with where we were.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2017 10:42 amUtterly unwatchable shite.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2017 10:40 amResults wise, did Megson do that much wrong? I think not. Reality is he knew it was a battle for us to stay up each year and was prepared for it. See our decline since. Not saying that he was blameless, but at least he wasn't a dreamer.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2017 2:46 pmChristalfuckingmightytonymikejoe wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2017 12:07 pmThis should give you all a laugh at how desperate things are at CPFC, where Freedman has recently been appointed Sporting Director.
One fan (thai eagle) is calling for a management duo of coach Sammy Lee and Dougie.
Their thoughts are below:
Think combination of Lee/Dougie and back playing the Palace way would at least give us a chance to avoid the dreaded R!
Yeah, good luck with that. Are Palace fans the new Hammers?
I only found out recently btw that Megson's back at WBA at Pullis's assistant. I refer the board to my earlier question - how the 4uck do these people keep getting these jobs?
I'd have Megson over Coyle or Lennon any day of any week.
May the bridges I burn light your way

Not this again. Megson was a monumental c*nt who we shunted because he was quite clearly going to get us relegated.

Re: Freedman out!
Megson was definitely pragmatic, but was just bad at getting his teams to win football matches. Valuing hard work over talent in all areas of the team was imho his most frustrating trait. This meant we had nine hard working defensive minded players and a centre forward on the pitch at times, and still conceded way too many goals. Coyle charmed everybody and initially appeared to be a great manager, but as it went on it was clear his enthusiasm and sunny disposition hid the fact that he wasn't doing the basics of his job properly. Freedman was too inexperienced for the job here and it was a bad move for all involved, and it is hard to judge Lennon as the club was in a death spiral not of his making during his time here. Hard to say who was the worst of that sorry bunch but I'd go (from best to worst), Lennon, Freedman, Coyle, Megson.

Re: Freedman out!
Not to mention much of the spending responsible for the recent mess was his. Not his fault he was given it, but we majorly over spent on largely run of the mill players.

Coyle still gives me nightmares for his stubborn arrogant nonsense killing our club. The worst manager I've ever known. Closely followed by Neil Lennon giving up and sulking for half a season. Both of them absolutely took the piss out of this football club. In a way that is completely and utterly intolerable to me. Lennon has slightly more excuse than Coyle.
But both wouldn't be spit on if they were on fire and I walked past.
Megson saved us from a bad position year one, had us 13th year two and when sacked we were 18th at a point a game. Was that good enough? No. But hardly the awful disaster that followed.

Re: Freedman out!
Definitely a shortest dwarf comp but Freedman was worse than Lennon for me. An absolute charlatan who sold himself as some deep thinker

Re: Freedman out!
Coyle miles and away the worst.
Of the other three, megson comfortably the best if you're the owner. Not sure if you're a fan.

From worst to not as bad ...
Lennon - that side went down without a whimper, wouldn't be surprised if his off-field antics affected things
Coyle - had players good enough to stay up, but didn't know what to do with them
Freedman - I was sucked in by what he was saying and perhaps needed more time, almost took us into the play-offs from nowhere
Megson - didn't like him, didn't like his tactics, but it's been all downhill since he left ... thought at the time, he's sacking would be the beginning of the end

Re: Freedman out!
Megson wouldn't have been a success in the long run any more than the others.
It's not just about pragmatism for me. I like to dream a bit. Both Coyle and Lennon brought charm, optimism and some really good football in their early days. Just because it didn't last doesn't mean it should be forgotten. I enjoyed watching us more under those two than I did under megson. Coyle did feck us over though. Lennon was more of a bystander as others did for us and less culpable.

I agree with this. I am generally more influenced by our results than anything else, but I think back to the 4-2 game v Tottenham under Coyle, one of the finest games I have ever seen involving BWFC, the 3-0 v West Ham, the 2-2 v Man Utd, and the way he got CYL, Petrov, Elmander, Sturridge, Davies playing top quality football. Sure it became clear he wasn't working properly on things like fitness and tactics, and once his initial spark and freshness had gone, he had nothing to fall back on, and left us in a mess for the future as well. Without doubt that side of his management was terrible.LeverEnd wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2017 8:48 pmMegson wouldn't have been a success in the long run any more than the others.

Re: Freedman out!
I think they were all shit. Coyle was ok early doors because of his 'local' status, but beyond that, meh.
We (the club) shoulda backed Big Sam to the hilt... Gawd knows how that would have turned out, but I reckon we'd be in a better position than now.

Not necessarily, if they’d backed him & we'd got into the Champions League he may still be here today,

He would have wanted more money then to compete in Europe and the league...and what if we hadn't made it?Joggers Nipple wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2017 8:28 pmNot necessarily, if they’d backed him & we'd got into the Champions League he may still be here today,
Nothing lasts forever. Eddies money didn't, Sam wouldn't...at some point we'd have had the same problem.

If we were always going to spend the money then I'd rather Sam (the big un) spend it that any of the cretins that followed. We may well have still ended up here, but at least we'd have enjoyed it a little more. That said, I'd rather we didn't spend money we don't have.

Re: Freedman out!
Unless im mistaken. If we had stayed up the season we went down from the prem wouldnt we had been loaded? Didnt the big tv deal start then? Its only gone up and up since! So yes, we shouldve backed BSA all the way. Irrelvant now mind.

Re: Freedman out!
The result would have eventually been the same. The problem was always that Sam had ambition to manage a big club. Eddie had already given him money to sign Anelka, Meite, Diouf etc...but he wanted more and more. When Eddie's money ran out or Sam left we'd have had the same problem. We might have delayed it a few seasons and those seasons no doubt might have been a hell of a lot more fun. Though let us not forget Sam's last season had plenty of fans moaning about the football played.plymouth wanderer wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2017 1:21 pmUnless im mistaken. Ultimately clubs our size will have good periods and bad periods. That is just life. Far bigger clubs than us will too. Only about 6/7 premiership clubs can exist without too much worry in that regard.

Or his money would've lasted far longer...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2017 5:17 pmOr Eddie might have run out of money quicker and we'd gone down sooner.
We panic spent to stay up and try and go back up under sub standard managers after BSA left. BSA would've had us mid table Prem in all those years for far less money. Of course hindsight is 20/20 and BSA would've left not long after he did regardless. And as long as our succession plan involved Sammy Lee as manager the downward spiral was guaranteed..
