We’ve a 50% strike rate on towering non-league defenders. Certainly worth the risk that he’s a Greenidge, if there’s a chance he might be a Santos.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 5:48 pm6'5" Yay gods are we signing Godzilla? Now I'd be fine with this. Like you say he's either another rough diamond like Rico or forgery like Greenidge. Worth a punt for me.

Santos is reportedly 6'5, Greenidge 6'6.
Presumably that answers any questions.

Whose scouting for derby county? Ex player recommendation maybe? Paulo Wanchope? Mart Poom?

Haringey are in the 7th tier, very much part-timers. Santos came to us from Barnet (5th tier, full-time) having had three years and 60 games at Peterborough before that. This is Mo Faal territory (also 6'5" and who is back at Enfield, same league as Haringey).

Does look good though. A carbon copy of Santos.

Good comparison and background info, Tony. Were Derby signing him out of desperation, or does the kid have something? Guess we'll find out in time...TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 9:10 pmHaringey are in the 7th tier, very much part-timers. I've never seen anything of Owen, but I've heard his name come up in conversation around lads bound to move up to the League.
We need to be swimming in these waters. There's talent in non-league that we can make money on.

Can’t hurt to have a look. From the clipreel (I know, I know) you can see why folks might be interested: a few eye-catching dribbles and that imposing physique. Season in Sweden ticks Evatt’s foreign box (albeit worryingly echoing Greenidge’s Norwegian sojourn). Will doubtless have rough edges but a trial should let us assess how many and how rough.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 11:19 pmI've never seen anything of Owen, but I've heard his name come up in conversation around lads bound to move up to the League.

Six weeks too old to be underage, but I’m not sure we’re going to be tight to our limit. Four spaces, so even if we get Dempsey (or Shipley) and Bod (or other overage target man) we could sign this guy and still have a space left. Plus potential loanees born this side of Millennium Eve.

Yeah, playing in the Swedish lower tiers and for Potters Bar might not fill us with confidence, but ultimately you have to trust the scouting. He doesn't have to succeed. Many coming up from that level won't. If you look at Posh, there's definitely a shotgun approach to some of it.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 11:46 pmCan’t hurt to have a look. If targeted recruitment and good coaching get you to even a 50% success rate from these kinds of transfers you've done amazingly well.
However, the rewards can be huge.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
South London Press expecting Bod to join us today. Permanent, but no contract length given.
https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/millwall ... ove-today/Millwall striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is set to complete his free transfer move to Bolton Wanderers today. The Icelandic international will be the second front-line exit from their squad this week after Matt Smith joined Salford City on an 18-month contract yesterday.
Bodvarsson will also make a permanent exit from the South London club. The 29-year-old has mustered just one senior appearance for the Lions this season, as a second-half substitute in their EFL Cup win over Cambridge United.
Millwall are working on adding attacking players to their squad during the transfer window with in-form Tom Bradshaw facing 12 weeks out with knee ligament damage. But Bodvarsson has been surplus to requirements the whole campaign. He turned down a move to a League One club in the summer transfer window.
The forward was due to be a free agent at the end of July. Bodvarsson is set be signed in time to be available for Bolton’s match at Shrewsbury on Saturday.

Permanent
Interested to see the length of contract then. You’d hope/expect that it’d be no longer than a one year deal.

Matt Smith to Salford? You and I have discussed this boy before, DSB. I've always fancied having him at our place as a big-lump-who-can-score option.

That would be a significant risk for us given his age and wages.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 11:29 amYou’d expect it will be longer than that. 18 months at least.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
He’s ripped up his Millwall contract to sign for us on lower money. I find it highly unlikely he’s done that till the end of the season or even mid way next season.The_Gun wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 11:42 amThat would be a significant risk for us given his age and wages.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 11:29 amYou’d expect it will be longer than that. 18 months at least.
I assume it’s 18 months at least but wouldn’t surprise me if it’s longer.
Evatt has been chasing him since the summer? Apparently was a major target.
