I suspect round here wouldn't be a great place, were we to lose out to an Evans/Clarke-Harris led Rotherham, next year...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 4:30 pmJohnson Clarke-Harris has joined Rotherham.
Hahahahaha....oh god, he's going to be an utter terror under Evans. Get us out of this division

If we go up it'll be interesting to see how people react to us losing a lot more games and whether there's the kind of patience there needs to be.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 9:22 pmI suspect round here wouldn't be a great place, were we to lose out to an Evans/Clarke-Harris led Rotherham, next year...
If we stay down then yeah, there will be a lot less patience for any losses. That's fair enough. Next season it really will be a case of we *should* go up. No excuses.

Evatt has already said the league is much tougher next season and we have to do it this season for that reason.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 9:29 pmIf we go up it'll be interesting to see how people react to us losing a lot more games and whether there's the kind of patience there needs to be.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 9:22 pmI suspect round here wouldn't be a great place, were we to lose out to an Evans/Clarke-Harris led Rotherham, next year...

So that will be the excuse. This year is the chance. I think next season we’d be in a pack of 6 or 7.

League is somewhat tougher, but we're better placed.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 9:31 pmEvatt has already said the league is much tougher next season and we have to do it this season for that reason.

There was a lot to do last summer to sort out basics and get lads in. Far less this time, if we can keep the group together and retain the manager. If not then obviously it's a different story.

I think any manager would get leeway going up a Division. When we went from 2nd to 1st, I don't think there were many thinking we were on HMS PTL. If you're giving a reasonable mid-table account, most folks would live with that IMO. Anything better, your probably well satisfied, doing an Ipswich, then I think you're winning the lottery.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 9:29 pmIf we go up it'll be interesting to see how people react to us losing a lot more games and whether there's the kind of patience there needs to be.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 9:22 pmI suspect round here wouldn't be a great place, were we to lose out to an Evans/Clarke-Harris led Rotherham, next year...

If you're bottom three fairly constantly, then thing like "leaking goals" become a much bigger issue, because you're unlikely to be banging in two a game consistently.
I was briefly looking at the last few years GF/GA for promoted teams vs the season before, on average they lose 30% of GF and add on 35% of GA. There's teams that buck that trend, but they're often teams that didn't score a lot in L1. Ipswich
being the best example of a team that has banged loads in, but still fewer than the year before.
There's only one team from the last 5 years with a tally greater than 51 against the previous season - Sunderland with 53, but they managed to contain that to 55, first year back in the Champo...
Luton who were a free scoring 90 the year they went up (with a decent 42 against), managed a commendable 76 GD swing, first year one up (GF dropped 40%, GA nearly doubled), only to be outdone by Peterborough with 81 GD swing. The smallest GD swing was Blackpool with -27.

Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub are available from Trumpton Town. They'll guarantee to put the fire out on any attack.

It just wouldn't be a Bolton thread, without opinions.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 4:11 pmWorthy4England wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 2:23 pmFor they system we play, we'd be better with Pugh, Pugh and Barney McGrew...TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 9:19 amCuthbert, Dibble and Grub are available from Trumpton Town. "Veteran Swansea City defender Kyle Naughton has agreed a new one-year contract with the Championship club. Naughton, 35, had been due to become a free agent this summer... Naughton is the first of six senior players whose contracts expire this summer to agree a new deal. The futures of Joe Allen, Jamie Paterson, Liam Walsh, Przemyslaw Placheta and Nathaniel Ogbeta are still to be decided."

Joe Allen worth a look in midfield? Might be a bit long in the tooth now...

Not sure about that - was only quoting re Ogbeta - but now you mention it, Przemyslaw Placheta has been mentioned by Ghost as a potential attacking LWB option.truewhite15 wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 7:00 pmJoe Allen worth a look in midfield? Might be a bit long in the tooth now...

Barnsley release Devante Cole (29), Jordan Williams (24), Robbie Cundy (26), Herbie Kane (25) and Nicky Cadden (27). Feels like they're battening down the financial hatches.
Sunderland release Corry Evans (33), Bradley Dack (30), Jack Diamond (24) and Ellis Taylor (21).
Preston release Greg Cunningham (33) and Ben Woodburn (24).
Sheff Wed release Lee Gregory (going to Mansfield), Tyreeq Bakinson, George Byers, Juan Delgado and Reece James. Offering contracts to Barry, Cameron Dawson, Di’Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa, Liam Palmer, Will Vaulks and Josh Windass, with clauses triggered to keep Marvin Johnson and Callum Paterson.

Yup.
What we need is Karl Henry. Who we can now afford to play, coz he'll get fewer cards than Thommo!

Easy to say that after today's performance. Personally I think he's been decent backup for Randell. Certainly wouldn't think he's the finished article.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 7:46 pmNon league that lad. Absolute bobbins. Not fit for Bolton wanderers.
We do need cover next season and I had thought we'd seen enough.
