On topic. The Sarpong-Wiredu chase may have started in earnest. Fleetwood are apparently expecting his release clause to be triggered "imminently", though what that means could vary.

If there's any cash then he has to be on the list, surely.

Solves two issues to a high level with one player and captains his club. Young, athletic, physical, massive and technical. A ball-winning mid and a centre half.

If we're not in the mix for him I'll be baffled.

I know the name but not sure I've seen him play much other than against us. For those in the know (and conscious of my promise on the other thread) do you reckon he could centre half and midfield in a 433 (not at the same time...)?

Yes, though in my view he suits a back three better.

He was a very good holding midfielder for Fleetwood. Now he's a very good centre half for them (and probably their only player who didn't deserve the drop) and he's previously been an excellent wingback at League Two level.

Pretty sure he could play anywhere across defence or midfield, at a pinch.

In our current system he could play to his maximum anywhere in the back three, or in a defensive midfield role. He could do a good job as a wingback, but you'd probably not want him there all season.

Baxter staying on would be great. Him signing a new deal, though it seems unlikely, would be a huge statement.

If we could add a genuine young talent to the keeping group, who could settle in over the next season, we'd at least have a continuity plan in place.

If that's Moulden, great. Goalkeeper development isn't my area, but needs to be someone.

No idea what "TrotChat" does or doesn't know, but it'll be interesting to see what goes on.

Dion, Thomason, Vic and Santos have always been the most likely to attract early interest - just based on previous stories.

With regards to the retained list I'm now really, really of the opinion that we should cash in on Santos, if possible. He isn't Beckenbauer, although he plays like he thinks he is, as proven on Sat alone in the first 20mins. The number of times he passed sideways or, more crimanally, put his foot on the ball and stopped all forward momentum was staggering. When he did try to play it long the ball went out of play. Every time. Don't get me wrong, he's had phenomenal games but also he's had absolute stinkers. For a manager to change formation to accommodate a player then stick with it is unreal. Time to have a clear out, refresh, whatever you want to call it. If Evatt can't do that then he needs to go. It's been radio silent from him so far and that isn't good enough even though I can understand the frustration. Great leaders do not wallow in self pity, they lead.

An astute manager would have been working with Markham on two possible recruitment lists....one for promotion and one for if we stayed down. As soon as the result was known you start working on the appropiate list. I feel that he took promotion for granted and actually doesn't have a plan for this division for next season. I don't know what calibre of player is available currently, I take my advice from more informed members on this wonderful forum, but at the minimum I feel we need a new spine to the team in defence and midfield and a new set of leaders on the pitch.

Apologies that it's taken me this long to post on the forum but for the last two weeks my wife has been extremely poorly, so football hasn't been high on my agenda, except for the Final of course. That's why I am doing my best to catch up with everyones posts and the latest murmurings. To all of you who were at the Final or watched it live I salute you. And may we all still be here cheering and cursing OUR team next season.

I do know one thing, I need to go shopping for a damned new kettle this summer. The current trio have been shite!
