Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Now we seem to have a L1 top end squad. Players have genuine competition for game time and have to perform every week. Promotion push?? Never imagined that but with the recruitment we have done, is the playoff a possibility? Wont get too much ahead of myself .. a game at a time.
One thing though, while the teams up top will start to feel the effects of games on their legs after their early and mid season consistency, we jus a come and fresh!!

Loan for the season. Will play alongside Luca Connell, six months younger than him.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
I was pretty disappointed Darcy dropped down to such a low level. I was sure someone like Carlisle or Oldham would have taken a punt on him. It's hard to see him coming back from a spell in the Scottish 3rd tier, challenging for a place in a side in the English one.

He’d of been better off at national league. Very unfortunate for the lad who has shown glimpses here. Could well follow the Luca Connel route to obscurity.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Missed it earlier this week, but the FA released their usual figures on how much teams have spent on agents' fees. Interesting, as usual.
This is for the last two windows - summer 2021 and winter 2022.
. .
Thoughts:
Owls and Tractors eye-catchingly awful, especially Ipswich, considering they were in this division.
Sheff Wed seem to be a fiscal basket case - yes, they were in the second tier last season, but that doesn't mean they have to set fire to haystacks of cash in summer and January. The comparison between them and their fellow relegated teams, well-run Wycombe and Rotherham, is stark. Problem is, there's more Wednesdays than Rotherhams and Wycombes in that division...
Our midtable amount doesn't strike me as too bad, considering we're still overhauling. Certainly Fleetwood and Lincoln, who spent more, might ask whether they got value for money.
Another hat-tip to Plymouth, who've spent £80k (in agents' fees) to go from leaky bottom-sixers to tight top-eighters. It's doable.
WIgan's £350k is three times ours, but I personally don't think that's too bad considering they built an entire squad – and it's seeing them right.
Anyone any thoughts?

I saw Will Buckley was one of the agents we paid - he’s got some cash for nothing out of us that bloke!

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
We've run a tight ship and targeted undervalued assets. That in turn means agents can demand less, because they actively want their player here to try and up that player's value so they make more in the future - or simply so their guy doesn't sack them.
Then you have players like Randell, who were watching their careers sink and we threw them a rope. Again, agents are willing to take a hit to make those deals happen.
This summer will likely see an increase in agent fees, as we've begun bring in wanted players. We will still be shrewd, but we can expect a significant bump from the next lot of figures.
Last season we used the fewest players of any side in the division. Which again explains a lot around the agent fees.
We've intentionally avoiding throwing money at agents, because that's dead money. It has cost us deals. Partially as a result of that, we've run a tight ship in terms of numbers.
One caveat for that is that many other clubs gave games to youth players. We didn't. So the "used the fewest players" stat is both a sign of prudence and that our academy system remains a bit toss.
Every player we use is one we have to pay to bring in and who is on senior wages. That's not ideal.
TL;DR
- Not paying agents = good.
- Missing out on players because of not paying agents = bad.
- Not using loads of players and avoiding agent fees = good.
- Not having enough players = bad.
- Not having a functional academy to take pressure off recruitment = very bad.

My immediate thought is how we're still talking about something allegedly posted 1/4/22...
