Hudds have lost one already (albeit a man and 2 goals down for the last 15) - we might win it and this early, that changes things quite dramatically - we know the Top 6 is often largely set by the end Sept at least 4 typically end up still in there at the end, probably nearer 5/6 by end October. His best season has been at 1.89 ppg, we're already at 2.1 to hit the 2ppg season target..every game we miss that, we're just making it even harder to hit that target. You don't need the league table to work that bit out, "in touch or not."

They already were at the slow play against Exeter. Notable jeers when we were messing round at the back.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 4:04 pmI think two would do it, or one really bad one.
The booing and negativity has been after the whistle.
If people stat howling at bad touches and misses we might be in bother.

If Evatt wants to have a career as a manager he needs to learn to operate under pressure. He’s not had any yet and rightly now has to deal with it. It’s down to him and the players to repay the fans for the last few seasons and to deliver what is required. They do that with pressure and expectancy because that’s what the job is.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 3:53 pmPutting pressure games in the negative was rather more a nod to the "Evatt out" position that we don't win games with pressure on them, rather than anything inherent about pressure games and their relative merits.
I repeat Allardyce had a season where he lost all his best players had peanuts to replace them with and knew that if we didn’t go up the club was going into administration. He had to deliver promotion even though we were way off being favourites. That sort of thing defines a manager.

So effectively (in that big picture syndrome thing") getting to the play-offs but staying down is instant managerial sacking ? Going up in third place might be acceptable with a fair tinge of "if we'd tried a bit harder as post season fandangos?.. and winning the league won't need a new manager anyway because the board might not want to spent money on his wages and ambitions. Seems like the dole could be a busy place at season end with the fans the real executive officers. Who'd be a football manager today...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 3:53 pmPutting pressure games in the negative was rather more a nod to the "Evatt out" position that we don't win games with pressure on them, rather than anything inherent about pressure games and their relative merits.

The problem with a sleeping giant is the volume of his snores.

I still think this could go both ways.
The positives: some of the good stuff has been the really hard stuff. The patterns of play have at times been excellent, we've had some lovely exchanges, and we've got into the final third in some really good positions. The press has also been v good at times, much better than last year, and we've basically stopped every team playing through us from the back (I didn't see most of the Exeter game).
That's the sort of stuff that's really hard, and separates good from great teams. The stuff that allows you to go on long running runs, blow teams away, and rack up points consistently.
The negatives: some of the basics have been horrible. Shocking at set pieces, poor mistakes at the back, giving the ball away cheaply in horrible areas. Big gaps between front and back. Easy to get at through the middle, don't have to do much to score against us. We've also consistently got into great positions and made nothing of it.
The basics, basically. The stuff that if you don't fix, you constantly ship goals, put pressure on the forwards they need to score, put pressure on the defenders they need to keep a clean sheet. Never gave a game won, constantly chasing. The stuff that means you get relegated, or at best drift aimlessly.
The acid test is whether he can fix the basics. The positives are no use while the negatives are there. He needs to do that, and quickly. The good news is they are fixable. The bad news is we don't have long to do it before the season is a write off.

Its the hope that kills. I have dropped my expectation of promotion this season from what I have seen so far. Evatt will not change his philosophy, a philosophy that most teams now know how to successfully negate. I just hope we win more than we lose so that I can have my moments of joy like winning against a weakened L2 team yesterday.

I don't think teams do know how to negate what we're aiming for. If it clicks I don't think many L1 teams can handle it. But it's no use if you're giving away an under 9s goal once an hour.

Oh woe is us! Maybe the new CEO will set up a special support forum for people finding unsubstantiated footballing tweets and post are often bollocks?
I reckon you'd find if you went back across our managers/teams and posts about them, that they'd all been found out at one point or another. So no, not just the football we currently play. Probably not all of them were found out at Wembley in a play-off final in their Emperors new clothes and no plan B. We were indeed well found out (on the day, but not a few week earlier when we beat them 5-0), but there we have it.
