Funny you said that as I was literally thinking that the thing I did like about Parky is he would never have subjected us to his views on Brexit, woke or Thatcher. And I liked that.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 4:52 pmHa. Yeah Evatt says so much so often that it's like infinite monkeys on typewriters. Journalist's dream, but quotes come back to bite you.
Maybe the next bloke will be as taciturn as Parky and we'll only have two quotes a week to ponder. As you say, it matters little if the job gets done.

I liked a lot about Parky. His honesty, determination and organisation. His grace under the pressure of the Anderson disaster. At the risk of enraging Worthy, I think he's a good man.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 5:13 pmFunny you said that as I was literally thinking that the thing I did like about Parky is he would never have subjected us to his views on Brexit, woke or Thatcher. He did stuff for the club people don’t even know. Fantastic. His football was limited but I’d put him in the Todd category (who I have issues with as a manager) in just absolutely top people.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 5:51 pmI liked a lot about Parky. Not many Bolton managers in that category. Maybe Bruce Rioch too. Though never met him one on one.

For me it’s time for him to go. I was pretty much done with him after Huddersfield but wasn’t completely against giving him a bit more time to see if he could turn it around. On the surface results have been good since that game, picking up 13 points from the the last 6 league games, but the performances have been far from convincing and we just look completely rudderless. If you look at the teams we’ve beat this season, all bar Reading are in the bottom six.
I also agree with the sentiments about recent transfer business - I’m really struggling to work out why we’ve invested so much money into the attack when realistically you’re only going to be able to play two of them at a time. The ~£750k we spent this summer on McAtee could have been used to get in two very good CMs for this level or a CM and a proper RWB (who can stay fit).
Being totally honest, recruitment hasn’t been that good since the 2022 summer window in which we signed Iredale and Toal on permanents and Trafford and Bradley on loan. At that point we were building a decent L1 side with good young prospects tied down to decent length contracts.
Since then we’ve spunked northwards of probably £3m on Collins, McAtee, Mendes-Gomes, Nlundulu, Williams, Schon, Adeboyejo and Lolos and we’re no better now than we were two years ago, if anything we’ve gone backwards. It feels like recently we’ve been far too trigger happy in the market, spending money just because we’ve got it. You don’t have to spend a fortune to get out of L1. Obviously that's not all on Evatt but as manager (and not head coach) he'll have final say on transfers so the buck stops with him.
I’ll never root against the team on the pitch but it really has got to the point where I wouldn’t mind a poor run results just to get him gone. I’d love to see what a new manager would do with this squad.

The recruitment sort of made sense in that they were planning the shape change. That didn't work and now we're lopsided. A lot of resource that can't all play.
I've never understood CMG mind. Good player but he's a winger and at no point have we played with them since well before he arrived.

The system would have made sense if we planned to have wide players. But the recruitment wasn’t good for the system since none of the players we signed suit that sort of weird hybrid midfield/striker role.Prufrock wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 9:12 pmThe recruitment sort of made sense in that they were planning the shape change. I’m with you DSB - Steven Schumacher would be a great fit and I’d be very disappointed if he got another job before we pot Evatt. Besides that we could go down the youth team coach route which worked well for Ipswich and is going okay for Lincoln with Skubala, but I’m not going to pretend to know who’s worth their salt at that level.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 9:07 pmI hear you. Worried that Schuey might go to Cardiff, though the caretaker's now favourite.brommers95 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 9:59 pmI’m with you DSB - Steven Schumacher would be a great fit and I’d be very disappointed if he got another job before we pot Evatt. I wouldn't mind a Skubala type, although Burton potting their emoji-faced ex-Chelsea Academy coach quicker than you can say Mark Robinson shows that it can go both ways. Like you I wouldn't know where to start with that pool. I know the Man U fella's agent was putting his name around but I hear the coach himself thinks it's way too soon. Guess it might be worth talking to Brian Barry-Murphy after three years in charge of City's EDS. Other than that, god knows.

Robins must be close to being in danger at Cov, so that could be another potential destination for Schuey.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 10:39 pmWorried that Schuey might go to Cardiff, though the caretaker's now favourite.brommers95 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 9:59 pmI’m with you DSB - Steven Schumacher would be a great fit and I’d be very disappointed if he got another job before we pot Evatt. Like Insano, I just don’t have the feeling that Evatt is in too much jeopardy for the time being. I think it would take at least one more absolute shellacking.

They could quite literally be waiting for the end of the season. If there's a heavy defeat at the weekend they're still not far off sixth so keep going. If it's not looking possible with just enough games left, that'd be interesting. Would they roll the dice while there is still time or just wait until promotion does/doesn't happen?
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

And would promotion-winning Robins interest any Wanderers fans, despite his unfortunate dalliance down the road in the pre-Premier era?

Me. Can’t see why he wouldn’t interest anyone? Can’t see it happening though - even if by some miracle Evatt went - Robins would surely be after another spell in the championship.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 12:03 pmAnd would promotion-winning Robins interest any Wanderers fans, despite his unfortunate dalliance down the road in the pre-Premier era?

Played for the wrong side didn't he? And saved Fergie's neck.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 5:39 pmMe. Can’t see why he wouldn’t interest anyone? I can see him being attracted to Bolton - underachieving, plenty of headroom, good facilities, he's a northwest lad. Like Schumacher really. Always surprised when people say we're a sleeping giant, too big for the division etc and then don't expect people to come here. Does the "Big Club" worldview only apply to fans, not managers and players?

Oh it’s an attractive job - but he’s been there and done it at Coventry. Would be an excellent choice and I rather tbh think worries that he represented Man Utd are probably a bit old hat now. Especially in league one.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 6:32 pmPlayed for the wrong side didn't he? And saved Fergie's neck.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 5:39 pmMe. Any manager who has promoted a team from this league has to be worth a look. His Coventry side of a couple of years back were one of the best watches around for me. Good football. Exciting.

Don't think it would be a huge problem, he barely played for them. Rooney or Jonny Evans I reckon would present a bigger problem. Shortire didn't seem to get much stick (outside of his general ability).

My objection to Rooney would be he’s useless as a manager and thick as bloody mince.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 8:12 pmDon't think it would be a huge problem, he barely played for them. Who he played for wouldn’t really enter it.

Talking about people from specific clubs - just stumbled across Rickie Lambert’s social media. What is it with ex Southampton players? Are they all this mad?
