That's where it gets more murky, for me. If those two turn out to be Fosbury's, it'll be because the manager who isn't there yet didn't know how to use them, yet they've been bought to fill a plan in someone elses head.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 8:25 amManagerless Wycombe made their 2nd signing yesterday since Bloomfield left. Clearly, if the board appear to have a clear plan and agents are well rewarded, players won't be reluctant to join a leaderless vessel.

So Iles said in the buff emergency podcast thing that James Collins was our primary target but he turned us down as he thought there was too much unrest and likelihood Evatt would lose his job.
You wonder if that has also influenced the board/Sharon to step in?

Who could be Leam Richardson or could be Brentford's assistant boss, although the latter is "understood" not to be coming. But that difference shows your point.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 9:27 amThat's where it gets more murky, for me. Yeah we shouldn’t be signing anyone till we have a manager in place and they’ve identified their requirements.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 9:27 amThat's where it gets more murky, for me. Our recruitment has been very very poor. I’m not even sure it’s been that good. And I think realistically any new manager should in this window be looking at loans and frees or very cheap deals. We aren’t in a good place to be splashing cash round - let someone assess the squad and what we need before we splurge more money.
Last summer was abysmal in terms of signings taking into account money spent and the return we’ve seen on that.

It's felt to me like the difference between buying players and assembling a team. Is why I'm not overly keen on "we've bought you these wonderful things, now go make it work." I'm sure it's maybe not that binary with a Manager in-situ, but it has always come across as a mess. Assuming you only invite for intervew those managers who you think might be able to work with what you have, then they're all likely to say "sure I can" if they want the gig.

Cosgrove scored 6 goals last season (3 in the league). 3 of those goals were against us.Bijou Bob wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 9:19 amCosgrove has a very, very poor scoring record everywhere he's been. We need someone to chip in with 10 or so by the end of the season whereas outside of Scotland, he's contributed the sum of sweet FA most seasons.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:20 amSchumacher and Sam Cosgrove would be an interesting combination of incomings. Get the Plan B band back together.
Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.

If nothing else Cosgrove would be good in training to sort our pussy defence out.

If history is anything to go by, some would send sick notes in. Might as well grab Humphrey's whilst we're at it. He usually rips us a new one, too.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:45 pmIf nothing else Cosgrove would be good in training to sort our pussy defence out.

Schumacher got 8 goals out of him in their promotion season, using him as a battering ram when Hardie wasn't working or wasn't available. That's a goal every 164 minutes he was on the pitch.
I'd rather better, but as a short term patch I'd have no issue with it.

Now prime Didier Drogba (James Collins) is out Cosgrove might have to do.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 2:02 pmSchumacher got 8 goals out of him in their promotion season, using him as a battering ram when Hardie wasn't working or wasn't available. For fairly obvious reasons, non-Manager ins and outs has taken a bit of a back-seat. The popular guesstimate is new fella might not be in until after the window and as it stands we're:
1 top goalscorer from the last two years down, plus a couple on the fringe.
And one "he's a 9/10/Jack" up, plus a loanee CD (of which Evatt and Markham said a year ago), something akin to "no point taking Tier 1 CD lads, because they don't head the ball, we watched one, had the right technical skills, but in 12 matches watched hadn't attempted a contested header." That was Tier 1 CDs in general, rather than this chap specifically, I think. They noted our first game was Wycombe with a "could you imagine him trying to beat Vokes to a header?"
Do we have enough for the new dude? I mean, they'll have to go with what we have regardless...

I don’t think there is any chance we don’t appoint someone till after the window closes. No chance. It would be regarded as a very big mistake. Don’t think anyone thinks it goes beyond end of this week do they?Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 2:39 pmFor fairly obvious reasons, non-Manager ins and outs has taken a bit of a back-seat. Murphy came through in the League of Ireland. The idea he's not headed a ball is an odd one. He's not a Newcastle academy product. He was getting elbowed and kicked in Irish men's football from 16-18. He'll be fine.

The 2+2= merchants are noting that Schumacher got the best out of Niall Ennis, whom Stoke would rather like to get shut of now he's gone. However, talk at the tail-end of last week was that Blackpool had agreed a deal for him...

As said, mate, I don't think they were specifically referring to Murphy.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 2:53 pmMurphy came through in the League of Ireland. Window closes 11pm on the third. I’m anticipating a manager announced by Thursday leaving some time to bring a player or two in. And shift one or two out. I imagine those deals would be loans tbh.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 3:26 pmEnd of this week doesn't leave much time, we hit Feb on Saturday...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 2:48 pmI don’t think there is any chance we don’t appoint someone till after the window closes.
