Sorry DSB, I noticed the error in my original post. Conway said he thinks he’s best as a left back, but is happy to play wingback.

The interview with him is actually quite a good listen. Comes across very well, other than outing himself as a Yoonited fan.

Heh, no worries. Either way, he's still got to prove himself - but I must admit it's good to hear a pro, particularly a young one, saying he'd like to be a defender. His displays last season suggest he's not at all scared of getting forward. Let's hope he knuckles down and impresses in preseason.

That was January. And I wonder if MK are offering him the sort of wealth upgrade they gave Neil Hart....

Bored enough to look at free-transfer left-backs who played League One last season and there's not much.

Josh Ruffels played just under half of Huddersfield's games, taking the Oxfordian - who turns 32 in October - over the 200-game mark in this division, alongside 78 in the tier above. He spent the majority of his career at his hometown club before Huddersfield took him up a tier in 2021.

Ibou (or Ibby) Touray, 10 months younger than Ruffels, is leaving Stockport after two busy seasons - only two men played more for them this term. The Scouse Gambian is largely a left-back but has also played LWB and LCB as Challinor switched formations. Hasn't played above this level, but elected to leave this summer rather than take up Stockport's offer. (Much the same could be said of Will Collar, a goalscoring midfielder who has opted to take his business elsewhere this summer.)

If they are offering £1M I'll drive him there myself, the lazy git.

We should keep him. Agreed at having no option but to say yes at £2m.

He’s 28 and never played above league one. He’s not worth what we paid for him.

Now that’s very different to whether we should sell or not. For me the question is can we replace his quality and goals and I suspect that would be hard. No doubt we could get someone who can run more but our big problem is putting it in the net when it matters and Collins is arguably the only player we have who does that sometimes.

So market value is in reality quite small but it’s a question of what we can get in return. Even if someone offered up a million quid and silly money for me that still has to be the question.

Maybe it’s Schuey’s plan to sell and replace him with a fast powerful winger who can cross. I hear they’re expensive.

McDons have silly money, so if they want one of our best players they need to cough up. £1m wouldn’t be anywhere near enough to ensure that we could replace Collins’ goals.

How much did we pay to land Dion? Less than 1m if memory serves...

On a personal note, why would he want to drop down to League 2? And with Franchise FC. He's surely still got something to prove in League 1 with eyes on promotion this season.

He's a talented player when he wants to be, and when he's on it I think he would be difficult to replace as he has goals in him - however his lazy, can't be arsed attitude in a lot of games is the issue with me, and to get promoted we need consistency not a 1 good game in 5 etc.

The question is also will he be happier playing out wide now we have Dalby, and could those two work consistently ?, and thinking about it further as HMX says - why would he drop down to league two. However, if we got a decent fee I wouldn't be against any of our team from last year leaving.

They're well-backed financially and at his age, it'd be his last big contract.

I could see him being interested.

He wants to get into the Wales squad, that isn't happening in L2.

Stranger things have happened in football but I'd be very surprised if it happened, and it would need to be a L2 record signing and some, for me.

If they offered to double wages I’m sure he’d go in a heartbeat. Money is by the far the biggest motivator for players at this level.
