Iles says:
• Simons was wanted by Hibs, Plymouth, Wigan and Blackpool
• we paid "around £300,000"
• "can play either in central midfield, or in the middle of defence, and is seen by the Whites as someone who will add steel and creativity to the engine room"
Last bit is interesting - partly because it gives the option of a mid-game formation switch - and also, might push some or other existing centre-back towards the door?

That’s fair but Schumacher talks about his legs and energy - which doesn’t scream ‘I’m about to stick him at centre half’.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:14 pmhttps://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/2 ... er-simons/

I mean it does feel liberating that the club have at last ditched the nonsense Evatt thing of not having a prosper defensive midfield player. Not since MJ.

Actually wasn't who I was expecting, a welcome addition though. Might need to bear with for the other mentioned in my previous post.

Yeah, reasonable on both counts. Just an option. No point signing the missing link then moving him habitually, but good to have the possibility.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:16 pmThat’s fair but Schumacher talks about his legs and energy - which doesn’t scream ‘I’m about to stick him at centre half’.

Interesting signing is that Simons.
We need strong midfielders so hopefully he fits the bill.
Little concerning that he's only ever made 21 appearances in a league season. Hopefully that's just a case of not being first choice.

I like this signing a lot.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:09 pmBig lad is Simons. And has 30 odd championship appearances to his name at 22.
Feel that this is the way. Recruiting big physical types with experience of football at a higher level if possible.
Hull evening paper speculating that we have paid around £500k.

Welcome aboard, Xavier.
Hopefully he's just the type we've been crying out for in midfield.

Thus far we’ve signed a big strapping target man and a 6ft defensive midfield player. We might be going back to being a normal football club.
As I’ve said it’s hard to know how signings will go and loads of factors influence it but I feel these are much more likely than the sorts we seemed obsessed with signing previously.

A decent amount of Hull fans saying he's a good player & that they should have kept him.

I noted that on the Dalby story. What’s that all about?nicholaldo wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:35 pmI hate the use of "Bolton Wanderers is".

I assume we've got a new social media bod in.
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Simons in, which I'm very pleased about, but presumably that means a loan or move out for Tommo or An Other? We're certainly not messing about here, which is great to see. One hard case centre back and we have the spine of the team sorted

Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.

Yes, I speculated earlier in the week that an incoming midfielder might signal a departure in that area, Bob. I still believe that will be the case, but couldn’t call who it will be.

One who knows the difference between singular and plural. Love it. Now we just need to eradicate "meet with" and I'll be happy.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:51 pmBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:39 pmI noted that on the Dalby story. Iles saying the fee was £300k, which if true is an absolute steal.

Yep. As always they might not work out, but they seem sensible signings of the type we need.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:35 pmThus far we’ve signed a big strapping target man and a 6ft defensive midfield player. We might be going back to being a normal football club.
