Did we do away with the B Team or did I dream that?

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Randall. I had a bit of a glance at the Posh forums around the time he signed. They didn't describe, generally, a number 10 pulling the strings for some advanced "capable forward + 2 wingers," attack. They generally said - goes missing, can't tackle and thank fcuk he's going to Bolton.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 12:16 pmYeah, this is another way of what I'm saying about McAtee and for that matter Randall. And what I mean when I say McAtee is a second striker rather than a creative 10. McAtee, as Boris says, would play well off a big man - but probably more as the 'late runner' for knock-ons. To be fair to him he has dinked in some nice short crosses, but they haven't been converted because we've been bobbins at headers.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 11:55 amI heard a whisper than McAtee was spending the summer trying to find a move. Dunno how true that is.boltonboris wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 11:52 amMcAtee is as hard a runner as anyone. I hope he'd be given an opportunity to play off a target man, but I don't see it. I also don't see Thomason and Schon anywhere near his first XI
I think he has a chance as an attacking midfield player but the issue is he looks very uncomfortable in that role - he doesn’t feel like he naturally wants the ball in those areas.
I think he’d maybe ideally not have Thomason or Schon in there either tbh. But depends how many he can bring in.
For all the disappointment, IMO Randall seems to want the ball in those creative areas. He was trying hard in those last dead-rubber games. It's just that when he looked up in that position for Peterborough, he saw a dangerous forward (say Clarke-Harris) and two swift wingers ready to stretch defences. When he did it for us this spring, he saw Collins loafing about in front of him, Schon eagerly burrowing diagonally inwards and McAtee barreling into his team-mates' spaces. He therefore sometimes calculated that we'd be better off retaining possession and trying again, at which point he'd be castigated for being negative.

A year ago most of their fans seemed to rate him. Albeit, there were misgivings regarding his physicality.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 1:52 pmRandall. Anyway Worthy, you're going to be well chuffed, as we're apparently signing someone called Richard Taylor.

...and he's over six foot (though not massively so). Centre-back again.... <eyes emoji>

It's not huge-huge, for a centre-back, but it depends what you do with it.

He looks a big unit though. I mean like there are 6ft 2 ones you feel could get blown over by a puff of wind. Not this chap.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 2:31 pmIt's not huge-huge, for a centre-back, but it depends what you do with it.
Also I think 6ft 2 is about right for a centre half. Bigger than that and you risk them being a lumbering liability. Smaller and they’ve for to be Gudni like.

...and I very much hope you're right. (This is not a coded warning that I think you're wrong.)

I agree, he looks a bit of a unit - I have dust in my eye. As for the name, it's decent, unless he announces himself as "Rich"
That would be unit up front, unit in MF, unit in defence and a keeper. Being a unit isn't just about height.
Ignoring for a moment, Pru seems to have got us landing more in a closed window, than when it was open, in principle, this was the bulk - pun intended - of what I was hoping to see. Hopefully they bring pace, athleticism and tenacity and maybe we can successfully dangle a few wet wipes along side them.

I will qualify that I have no idea of this lad is any good. But at this stage we can only really judge on the ‘type’ of signings and the positions being filled and for now it feels we are getting the right types on paper in the right positions. All we can do is hope they are the right players as well.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 2:43 pmI agree, he looks a bit of a unit - I have dust in my eye. Or my favourite most dreaded ‘he can play wing back or left centre half’….ahhhhh

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Per Transfermarkt, Richard Taylor is left-footed and although predominantly a centre-back, he has also played a fair few at left-back - including the majority of his 2022 season at League of Ireland side Waterford, whom he helped to second place in the second tier and a losing playoff final.
Again - I know some of us object to jacks of all trades, and I fully understand that - but having some fairly fluid players helps both in terms of formational flexibility and, frankly, squad numbers.
