But if that's the case, and making the assumption given that we've signed two players for that position, that it's a 4-2-3-1, it leaves us five players in that midfield 2. That's at least 1 too many.

The alternative is that Ceesay comes in as a definitive #6, playing with the two #8s ahead. Is Simons a #6 or a #8? If a #6, that's Ceesay, Simons and Sheehan squabbling over one shirt; Thomo, Morley and Dempsey arguing over the two #8s, and vanishingly little room in the line up for any of our myriad #10s...
Yeah no matter what formation we play there's definitely too many players for some positions (central midfield, either 'sitting' and advanced) and not enough for others (full-back, wing).

4-3-3
RB: Cogz, Tutu?
CB x2: Taylor, Toal, Forino, Forrester, Johnston
LB: Conway, -
DM: Simons, (Ceesay), Sheehan?
CM x2: Morley, Thomason, Randall? Lolos??
W x2: Schon, Tutu? CMG??
CF: Dalby, McAtee, (Vic), (Dan)

4-2-3-1
RB: Cogz, Tutu?
CB x2: Taylor, Toal, Forino, Forrester, Johnston
LB: Conway, -
DM x2: Simons, (Ceesay), Morley, Thomason, Sheehan?
'10': Randall, Lolos??
W x2: Schon, Tutu? CMG??
CF: Dalby, McAtee, (Vic), (Dan)

3-4-1-2
RWB: Cogz, Tutu
CB x3: Taylor, Toal, Forino, Forrester, Johnston
LWB: Conway, Schon?
CM x2: Simons, (Ceesay), Morley, Thomason, Sheehan?
'10': Randall, CMG? Lolos??
CF: Dalby, McAtee, (Vic), (Dan)

3-1-4-2
RWB: Cogz, Tutu
CB x3: Taylor, Toal, Forino, Forrester, Johnston
LWB: Conway, Schon?
DM: Simons, (Ceesay), Sheehan?
CM x2: Morley, Thomason, Randall? CMG?? Lolos???
CF: Dalby, McAtee, (Vic), (Dan)

Watching what Ceesay clips are available online, I'm not even sure he's left-footed.

He's certainly very comfortable on his right, sometimes even seeming to prefer it when both options are available. For example, his only goal this season is a right-foot 20-yarder that might arguably have been easier to hit with his left...
The EA Sport player database (I know, hardly the most accurate sometimes, but still) does indeed have him as right footed.

Talking of dubious databases, his wiki page was amended last night to say he's signed a four year deal with us.

All the databases have him down as a right footer, which suggests he's almost certainly not being signed to be our starting left back.

Tend to think you're right here, but it didn't stop Vincent Candela or Denis Irwin. Or more recently Tino Livramento or João Cancelo.

I suppose the question is, is Ceesay coming in as another defensive midfielder (in which case he's in direct competition with Simons, Thomason, Morley and Sheehan), which would indicate that we're likely looking at two holding midfielders to start...

Or is he coming in as our new starting left back?

If the former, then there's still massive holes to be filled on both flanks, both attacking and defensive, as it would likely be a 4-2-3-1 formation. If the latter, then it's still anybody guess, but at least we've filled the massive chasm at left back...
We're assuming they're both going to sit, somehow permanently in a Cloughie style not paid to cross the HW line. What about in old money, if they don't (at the same time?).

Pfft. Did I ever tell you about the one I scored with my left peg, from just inside my own half? Can't play on the left my arse. We seem to spend a lot of time talking about what our luvvies can't do, some having cost a million quid, which might be ok, if it wasn't "basics." I still expect a right footer to be able to tackle and pass with their left. Maybe not quite as well, but professional footballer well
