Nixon reports that Stockport want Forrester. If the price is right (though I can’t quite decide on what that is in the heat) then I’d let him go. Far too injury prone.

As for Thomason and Huddersfield, I’d much rather we kept him. £1m+ may change my mind though.

Should clarify that I didn’t see us challenging for the top 2 in May and still don’t now. I suspect we are fighting for 6th-4th at best.
Is there anything that could change your mind bwfci before the season kicks off?
Probably not - always we have to hope but there are some strong sides again in this league and we are going to be a work in progress.
Thanks bwfci. There are strong sides in the league, Huddersfield, Wycombe, Luton and Stockport are the 4 I’d imagine will be up there with us. But the bookies have us 5th favourite for outright winner and they’re rarely wrong. I am, however, in the Bertie(see his recent post) camp atm and still hoping for a couple of signings that shift the needle.
I don’t think individual signings shift needles at least not with our budget. If we are to do anything this season it will be about collective endeavour and working hard as a unit and having a spirit that keeps the group going. You need players within that but for me most of the ‘individual’ stuff is over done. Wrexham went up with good players but main thing was they had tremendous work ethic and spirit.
And about 4 strikers all better than anything we had.
Point of order - their top scorer got 8. They had nobody in double figures (bar Smith but 11 of his tally were at Reading before the move) and they scored the exact same number of goals last season as we did.

So not sure the difference can be said to be ‘4 strikers’ it clearly isn’t the difference.

Now we're being linked with Palace's Danny Imray who's a player I saw a lot of last season (on loan at L2 Bromley). A RWB with pace who had the ability to change a game. In the January window, Wycombe reportedly had a £1m bid for him turned down.

He's a bit on the small side and I find it difficult to see him ever turning out for Palace in the Prem. But, L1 might be his level.

Cheers. Interesting. Confusing. Surely we can’t be keeping all these wingers.

Or was he more fullback than winger?

Definitely a flying winger!

This is from the Palace website:

"In July 2024, Imray moved on loan to League Two side Bromley. He played in 42 games across all competitions for the Ravens, predominantly as a winger rather than a wing-back, scoring twice and registering five assists.

"His performances saw him earn Bromley's Young Player of the Season award."

Sounds like you're describing Luke Matheson.

I am a lot more confident of us going up than most. Last season with Evatts **** system, we missed many many chances even though we were forced only to play to the strikers on the ground as they couldn't head to save their lives. If we get 2 physical strikers who can hold it up and can also head, with the pacy wingers we have signed, I believe we will be way stronger this year. Teams will think twice before pressing us as we will counter attack at pace.

Finding 2 strikers who fit the bill will be the difference maker, and I don't care about name brands as long as they work hard and have physical presence, I think we have as good a chance as any of the other teams to get top 2.

The Huddersfield offer being reported for Thomason is £750k. If we're going to sell to a direct rival, I'd certainly be demanding £1m+.

Me too. It's what Bristol City offered a couple of years ago and he's a better player now. Forrester being in his last year and with his injury record, I could accept us taking minimal cost but Thommo is worth more to us here than 750k there.

It looks like we've now reached the 'Outbound' stretch of the transfer window and we're bound to lose at least one midfield player. Personally, I'd sooner it was Sheehan and I'd definitely want to keep Morley. As far as Tommo goes, whilst he's a trier, he's too 'hit and miss' for me and another £750k from Huddersfield feels about right. Perhaps we could take Dion back on loan as part of the deal.......

In other news, I note that Wycombe are apparently stepping up their chase of Luca Connell. It's an odd one to me that Huddersfield haven't tried to move him a few miles north, but perhaps he's out of their price range at £1 million+.

750k feels like a figure we would seriously consider at this point. Of course, it won't be the total amount up-front.

Feels like we’d be considering any sort of serious offer for anyone tbh.

I’d be sad to see Thommo go but it’s clear Schumacher and Harkin feel a total rebuild was necessary and that means selling those who have market interest and value.

It's a sad indictment of where we have got to, that so far into the window we've only had outline interest in one midfield player and that at a level where half of us are thinking " Meh, go on then". It seems our squad is generating very little interest and it's collective value isn't that high.

We’ve sold Southwood and Collins - both to league two.

Which is maybe further indictment. We really did build a very very poor squad.

I’d suggest that while he’s a better player than when Bristol City bid for him, his ceiling looks to be a lot lower than it maybe was then. That would reflect the lower transfer fee and the fact that it’s now a league 1 rather than championship club that’s wanting him.
