So basically we are skint and are unlikely to reinvest the full Collins & Thomason fee's ?
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
That’s not what he said at all. We’ve already spent the Collins fee.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 9:36 pmSo basically we are skint and are unlikely to reinvest the full Collins & Thomason fee's ?

BTW, with Santos and Gethin gone, Thomo is the final link with the fourth-tier squad (unless you count Max Conway, who was around but only 17 and didn't get any senior minutes, even in pre-season). Quiz question: if he goes, who's the longest-serving player left?
McGinlay?

Bit of a leap, Bertie.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 9:36 pmSo basically we are skint and are unlikely to reinvest the full Collins & Thomason fee's ?
Sustainability is selling players at a big profit. Which we could do with Xav Simons if he turns out well, but not with, I dunno, Jonjo Shelvey.
Given we haven't denied offering £500k for Kenny at the same time as we offered £300k or whatever for Ceesay, I don't think we need to think we're skint.

Aye, contractually the joint longest server with one other. And his impending transfer was announced before the other mon's.The_Gun wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 9:34 pmJohnston?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 9:32 pmQuiz question: if he goes, who's the longest-serving player left?
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Yeah it's just about finding players with good resale value, Simons and Gale fit that bill for instance. We're not looking in the bargain bin just yet.

Sheehan? The only other I can think of from that summer.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 9:46 pmAye, contractually the joint longest server with one other. On Tomo - he's a good enough egg but feck me he's got his faults, and £1m? Where do I sign.
At best he's our third choice CM right now. And while we'd probably all rather get a mil for Sheehan, that isn't happening. Good luck to the lad, hopefully see him with a cameo in Sunny

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Following Shazza's interview and the Tomo talk ...
Looking at last season. Evatt had to go, he went. Darby got two wins, then Schumacher got the job and had a good spell, then there was a dropoff. What happened? Maybe the oppo collectively figured out how to beat them. Maybe the players hadn't time to learn new things in training. Not sure. This is the period that bothers me.
I saw a recent interview with Schuey where he said about that period something along the lines of "we weren't able to score so we needed a clear out (over the summer)".
Looking at the lineups for that period, then looking at who is still around, ignoring defenders... Cogley, Tutu, Sheehan, Thomason and McAtee played quite often. Interesting seeing McAtee's chat/walk on the beach, he seemed almost apologetic, and keen to say he's been improving. Not sure any of the others have had a chat that I've noticed.
No clue what instructions the players had, but if there are players not doing what they're told then it gets into trust or lack of. So then, after the season you have to get into who is buying in, who isn't, and who has a resale value. And, if buying low/selling high is the strategy, I'm fine with that.

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Correct. Other permanent signings that summer were Dapo, Dec John, Aimson, Bakayoko, Dixon and Kachunga, plus Amaechi on loan. What a time to be alive. For the record, January brought Morley then Dempsey, among others now gone.Prufrock wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 1:37 amSheehan? Back to the present and future, and Ilesy's report this morning suggests we might (but might not) see a new face paraded today.

• targeting two more strikers – one before the season
• keeper Nathan Broome expected to sign
• Schuey not promising anyone pre-Hibs but “We're working hard and we know we’re still a few players short from where we want to be. There's a lot of work going on behind the scenes to try and make that happen but, as always, it isn’t easy. Hopefully we can get something sorted pretty soon.”

Didn't Andrew Tutte play for us when we won the Lancashire Cup Finsl in April? Pedant alert.

Ha yeah you can have him. Probably also Sonny Sharples-Ahmed, Hutch, etc were in the academy. Tutte a slightly different beast as he was at least formerly a first-teamer.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 8:01 amDidn't Andrew Tutte play for us when we won the Lancashire Cup Finsl in April? As a fan, I would have preferred a much more experienced #2 keeper than a player whose vast majority of appearances are for Mickleover Sports (not Town; thanks DSB).

Mickleover *Sports*, as was then (they're now Mickleover FC). Moreover, those apps where when he was 17/18 years old. But he must have something about him for previous teams to include Man City and England U17/U18, and more recently for Swansea to have given him a 3yr contract. And I imagine he's cheap. One more thing - on this week's Buff podcast, Iles still expects us to get an experienced keeper in as #3.
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Although I will say there is a lot going on; it does feel like a cheap option to facilitate other deals.

Yeah, it makes perfect sense to me. TSL is so clearly first choice that his backup will hopefully never be needed, so wages thrown at a #2 keeper are basically 'insurance' rather than 'investment'.

We have a limited budget and our squad, lightened though it may be, has to fit within whatever has been set as the total.
I’m reasonably confident that we’ll be in a position to compete by the end of September. I predict a very difficult first month and some significant howling at our mid table position, 8 or 9 points off the pace set by others, but I reckon we’re another number 9, an experienced centre back, a box to box midfield replacement for Tomo and a young loan striker away from a decent push towards Christmas.

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
I’ve seen a few detractors on social media of GT.
Keith Hill, Ian Evatt, Nigel Pearson, Lee Grant (Huddersfield), Parky. We don’t know whether Huddersfield were sniffing around, they probably were but have been gazumped by Wrexham.
All these manager wanted GT to play for their club and were and are prepared to pay for him. I suspect Schumacher realises that playing in the Champo is an opportunity for GT and is being fair to the lad. I bet he’d rather keep him.
Are all those managers wrong?

Never understood the GT disliking. Always gives 100% every game.
Do wonder who the twitter divs will move onto when he does go.
That energy is going to take some replacing.
