Carling Cup 3rd Round - Burnley Away

Post by jmjhb » Sat Aug 28, 2010 12:49 pm

Probably the draw that Burnley fans wanted the most and Coyle wanted the least, but hey, it's winnable.

Aren't there usually 3 games shown on Sky?

If so, then it'll be Spurs-Arsenal, Burnley-Bolton and Scunthorpe-Man U I presume.

Their board makes amusing reading, as if a Carling Cup tie will make any difference anything?

They could beat us 14-0, and they'd still be a shitty little Championship side that Owen was right to walk out on.

Be fun though.

The draw in full ...

The Carling Cup third-round draw:
Brentford v Everton
Portsmouth v Leicester City
Stoke City v Fulham
Chelsea v Newcastle United
Aston Villa v Blackburn Rovers
Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal
Millwall v Ipswich Town
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Notts County
Burnley v Bolton Wanderers
Birmingham City v MK Dons
Liverpool v Northampton Town
Scunthorpe United v Manchester United
West Bromwich Albion v Manchester City
Sunderland v West Ham United
Peterborough United v Swansea City
Wigan Athletic v Preston North End

A good number with a bit of interest to them .. & 6 all Premiership ones.

I suspect we won't be second a second string outfit out, for this. Though Robbie Blake will probably play a part.

Shame though. I fancied a Claret & Blue team ... but the one from London was my hope.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

We got a piss easy tie too. Owen'll be fired up for this more than all Burnley put together.

We should send the kids, and a message that these kind of competitions just aren't that important when you're in the Premier League.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Haha.. Nothing to do with sending our first team and potentially getting beat, no?

Indeed - but that's just a parochial squabble. Why in the name of the juddering feck would anyone else want to see it acted out yet again?

Scunny v Man U, that's a proper cup tie that is!

Hey if Utd's cup form goes to....well, form... doesn't that make Scunthorpe favourites?

Thought hadn't crossed my mind.

Anyway, I skipped over to one of their boards today and you'd think this was the biggest most important game in their (and it seems they think) our history. I'd just like them to feel deflated by the idea that its just another fixture for us, albeit one against lower league oppo, which is always tricky cliche patronising cliche etc.

I think this will be a great game. Burnley will be well up for it, and while Bolton might be much lessor so, Coyle will change that. Should be good experience for some of our reserves.

Rumour has it you can't buy a bed sheet or a tin of paint in Burnley for love nor money since the draw was made.
