I've been very critical of Elmander in the past.

But he's been my favourite player this season, I do like an underdog who proves his doubters wrong. Not that Elmo has done that quire yet but still he deserves a new deal.

Club finds itself in an awkward position now - we all know he's well paid already and he's in form at exactly the right time to get a new deal with the threat of other clubs who will come sniffing around.

I don't think we can wait until December/January to dither about this decision. There's a big risk he'll sign a pre-contract with someone else and then his heart won't be in it for the second half of this season.

At 29 he'll be looking for a decent deal and obviously won't fancy a big wage drop - perhaps we'll try to include more performance-related bonuses to compensate for a reduced basic.

Maybe he'll just admit he likes playing for Bolton and remember the patience and encouragement of the manager and his mates.

Now is the time to get this sorted. If he is still one of the top scorers in the Prem come Christmas time, there will be bigger fish from here and abroad sniffing, and his salary demands will rocket. A three year deal would be great, he could yet go down as one of our finest Prem players.

Something like what happened with Anelka...

Sign a new contract and if a EL/CL club wants to pay, you can go with our thanks.

What was the name of that bastard who cost us a lot of cash, was useless when he turned up, continued to be useless for quite a long time, missed THE sitter at Wembley in a semi final, and then went on to be quite well liked by Bolton fans?

Holdsworth, D ?

How do we manage to find them?

Not a football club, more like a centre; after all, Owen Coyle wasn't up to much as a player.

This may come up a lot later if this drags on and other clubs start sniffing around, but he should feel no real loyalty towards Bolton Wanderers in terms of us having 'stuck with him'. We didn't do it out of charity.

Hopefully you're right and he does like playing here and he'll sign soon though.

The only players above him in the PL goal scoring charts as of today are:

Malouda
Tevez
Drogba
Berbatov
Average value about £30m each - and all on £5m a year plus.

Since we can't afford anyone better, I suggest we offer him a new deal

If only he could be convinced before every game that we're playing away he'll be pushing 20 goals this season. Strange thing is he tends to play better at the Reebok and be more involved but can't score for toffee. Away he can be annonymous / average but notch; eg. west brom, wigan & arsenal. Weird.

If our main rivals for his signature are the like of Newcastle I'm pretty confident he'll stay. If someone like Spurs comes in I don't think he'd get the same guarantee of 1st team football, and still stay. Could all be a storm in a teacup.

He's also been pretty quick to go to the fans when he does score so that gives me some hope. Have to say I like the new improved, cocky Elmander. He's been running at defences like a madman lately. I've enjoyed annoying my Rooney-obsessed mate with the goal stats.

Good stuff. :D

I just hope that the goals haven't gone to his head and that he doesn't push for and get a high salary. He's a long way from being in the same league as theses other guys or Rooney or Jones or Bent, etc, etc even though he is above them in goals at present.

Worth a new contract but only if its not at an overinflated level.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

I'd take Elmander above Jones any day of any week.

I'm better than Kenwyne Jones.
