Hoping there'll be a minutes silence across the leagues on Sat.

Way to young to have ever seen him play but from reading articles and columns about him I quickly realised how much he ment to our club. I Really do not know what to say except "R.I.P Sir Nat Lofthouse".

I remember Nat giving a talk at Bolton School in about '93. The man oozed pride for Bolton and Bolton Wanderers. He struck me as the kind of irrepressible, optimistic ever enthusiatic guy who would have been fantastic to have on your team, whatever that team was and was doing.

I hope they put a statue up for him now, I'd personally like to see it outside the Club shop, in the are behind The Lofthouse stand.

RIP Nat.

I'd love to see it on the corner of the Town Hall Square in Bolton town cenre and not in Horwich. I know the Reeboks our ground, byt Nat was a Bolton legend long before the Reebok. Just a personal thing.

Throughout my life, whenever I've answered "Bolton" to the question "Where are you from?" especially when asked by a member of an older generation, their immediate response has always tended to be one of "Ooh, Nat Lofthouse".
Not only has our club lost its most loyal and finest servant but our hometown has lost its greatest embassador also.

RIP Nat.

Not ashamed to let a few tears fall. I might never have met the man, nor seen him play, but he is, was, and forever shall be synonymous with Bolton Wanderers.

Rest In Peace Nat Lofthouse. A true legend. You will be sorely missed.

Same here. Shouldn't be in Horwich, but in the town centre like Fred Dibnah's

I have nothing to add to the foregoing - his passing leaves a hole in our lives that cannot be filled. I only knew him as a player and he was the best centre forward of his generation (and many other generations). He was why I started watching the Wanderers. RIP.

Good point but from the little I know of Nat as a personal bloke, I think he'd be happier with it at the ground of the football team he spent most of his life with.

But I guess such things can be left up to his family.

Only reason we don't have a statue now is because Nat said it would embarrass him! That itself is a measure of the mans humility and greatness!

Why instead of? Why not as well as? As I mentioned before, Nat wasn't only a club legend but was also our town's leading ambassador.
Can we not afford two statues, one in town and one outside the ground? Bolton seems to be able to find sufficient funding for some pathetic slabs of cement to mark out Smithills Country Park at £25K a corner, that thing that's meant to look like a train on Tesco roundabout and that pile of shiney rubbish on Mansell Way?
Sandy Holt gets more recognition in this town than Nat Lofthouse!

Well said Bruce - there is no law against 2 statues.

Incidentally - all the obits I have seen say that he retired in 1960 after an injury.

My first memory of BWFC is Bonfire Night 1962 - a 16 year old potential wonderboy, Francis Lee, made his debut on the right wing - and Nat came out of retirement to play inside right and be Franny's minder.

My Dad always said that Nat never gave Franny the ball in that match without enough space to be sure he did not get clobbered. We beat City 3-1 - Franny scored a header and I was hooked.

So thanks Nat RIP

Too young to have seen him play but the first proper book I read was my dads copy of his autobiography 'Goals Galore'.

I remember him coming on the pitch in 1982 to promote Lifeline and then taking over as Caretaker Manager for the last time in 1985 - He guided us to a 2-1 win over Chesterfield iirc.

What a legend.

Anyone got a link to the Lion of Vienna match, I've never seen it?

As a grown man I'm not ashamed to admit I have shed a tear today.

Bet Nat is having his ear bent right now by Dave Higson over a pint and a chaser!!!
